Hi

I am looking at pictures of USMC M1A1 Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I want to make one in three NATO camouflage colors.

Can someone help me there?

What kind of information do you need? What kit are you planning to use? Tamiya and Dragon have Good patterns for the NATO camo colors in their kits and the pattern is standard on real M1's, because they all come from the same factory. Tamiya XF-68 Brown, XF-67 Green, XF-69. Polly Scale F505350 Black, F505352 Brown, 505354 Green are good colors in Acrylic paints, I've used both with good results. Model Master and Floquil have color sets in Enamel paints.

Hi guys

@ Frenchy

Thanks for the link was very interesting.

@ Warlock109

I have one of the M1A1 Abrams Heavy Armor of Dragon and Trumpeter M1A1/A2 5in1 Abrams.

Here two images from the current state of the M1A1 by Dragon.

The second that is, the Trumpeter is an M1A1 w / Twmp.

I need pictures from OIF as here for example

Hey Basti,
the pics you've posted show tanks belonging to Task Force Tarawa. in fact most of their tanks were kept in nato camo and haven't been repainted during OIF1. so if you want to build a TFT abrams, your chances are good to find several tanks with the twmp and in nato camo. i.e. this is what google got me:

for more info check out these links:
http://picasaweb.google.com/andy.adyns
http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/taskforcetarawach_1.htm

Echelon fine details also include decals for a three colored abrams with mine plow in their latest usmc decal sheet.
hope this helps...

Cheers, Max

Sebastian a promising approach would be to get some of the CONCORD publications dealing with the USMC in OIF.
To get a correct Nato+camo you might want to check ARMY M1s aswell, since most of them are factory applied and would be identical with the USMC vehicles. Even after a stop, to refresh the paint, in depots would only cause marginal differences.

Hey Max !
Your Nato+camo looks kind of odd

The one from the picture with Saddam in the background it will very interesting build, as it got mounting points for a dozer blade from Challenger 2 and the way the dust stayed on the edges of camo pattern make it looks like it was painted with some new camo type.

Howdy Sebastain, if you are going build a USMC Abrams in NATOflage then a TF Tarawa tank would be a good one to build. The crewman were all Reservists from Alpha Company, 8th Tank Bn, based in Ft Knox, KY. All of their Heavy Common tanks were in tri-color and drawn from those available at 2nd Tank Bn at Camp Lejeune, NC. The 2nd Tank Bn crews flew to Kuwait and drew tanks from the Maritime PrePosition Ships. Alphas' tanks were picked from all the companies and had various tactical markings. They floated overseas in January aboard amphibious ships and arrived in Kuwait late February. During transit most of the old Tac Marks were painted over but not all. As you can see in the top picture the tank has an old 2nd Tank, Delta Co Chevron ( is for 2nd Plt, ^ is for Alpha Co and /8 is for 8th Tank BN even though it should have actally been a /2 for 2nd Marine Regiment as 8th Tanks HQ was not present. The tanks in the botton picture are from 1st Platoon as evidenced by ^ in front of the A/8. Another unique feature of the TF Tarawa hogs was that they did not have the MCD(Missile Counter-measure Device) mounted in front of the Loaders station. And only the Platoon Commanders and Platoon Sergeants tanks had TI Phones mounted on the right rear of the hull. additionaly all the tanks were missing the number 7 skirt and had BRE(Bustle Rack Extension) mounted. Happy USMC modeling! Outta here, Mike sends . . .

Something changed in my previous post by magic! The < on the tanks front skirt in the first photo is the original 2nd Tanks, Delta Company marking with three bars for 3rd Platoon.
The light colored markings in the center of the skirts were applied for OIF 2003. The > is 2nd Platoon, rough looking A is for Alpha Company and the /8 for 8th Tank Bn(parent unit).
Outta here, Mike sends . . .
