We were pulling engines on an M931A2 and M923A2 5 ton trucks today. I took several photos of the engine in and out of the truck and shots of the engine area without the engine in place. Look for them in the motor pool later this evening.

It's a pity that the whole engine area has to be scratch built in Italeri models as nothing looks like it should there... Alternatively there is also resin and PE set from CMK available, but I don't know how good it is. Just by looking at the picture in CMK catalogue I can say the PE splash guards are the wrong shape...
I will definitely leave the M923 model I currently build without the engine. I still have not decided how I will build M925 shelter truck, but I doubt I will want to open the hood, so adding engine would be pointless.
Regards,
Pawel

Ummm, okaaayyyy.
For the rest of you who may be interested, I've uploaded about 15 shots of the engine being pulled. They show up on page 3 and 4 of the 900-series 5 ton album. Some shots of the engine on the ground and in place. Got called away when it was being reinstalled so I missed some good shots.

Ohhh, Rob, don't get me wrong! That's great that you provide us with more pictures of these trucks and I'm very thankful for that. It's just that the Italeri kit cost me so much work to bring it closer to accuracy in all other areas, that adding full engine is just too much for me at the moment
But I may change my mind. I think my favourite hobby shop in Warsaw has one CMK engine set, that they cannot sell for a long time now, so after all I may buy it and see what it is worth. If I do, then your photos would be priceless reference! Of course I will not use it on the truck I currently build - it is too late for it, but I still have this M925 in the box.

Any other big shots you may need, I'd like to fill the CD with as much as possible.

Ummm - how's about Abrams pics. It's been far too long since I modeled an Abrams. A recent variant would be great!

I uploaded some more shots of the truck with the hood installed, but opened. I also added some under carriage shots to the HMMWV album and some hydraulic trailer photos to the Trailer Trash album.

Still don't know if M939 engine shots will be useful for me, but these Humvee photos definitely will! :-) Priceless reference, as usual.
Thanks a lot Rob!

I just used my lunch break to visit the hobby shop and took a close look at the CMK engine set for M939 trucks. And I'm disappointed. Take a look at this picture:
I expected many brass photoetched parts. I found... none! All parts are resin. They were just painted gold for this picture...
The engine itself is molded integrally with the splash guards, radiator and firewall. Only a few separate parts are added on top of it. The hood is one large part and is a copy of kit's parts, thinned down a bit, with just the internal insulation and same detail added. The splash guards are also just of copies kit's parts (so they are wrong shape), but it looks that Eduard PE parts were glued on to them before the resin copy was molded! But the decisive factor that made me put this set back on the shop shelf, was the bottom of the engine compartment. There is none!!! It is still the same strange featureless flat shape that was provided by Italeri!!! So while the engine is very nicely molded, it is only a top section of it, no details of its lower parts and bottom are provided.
So this set can only be used for showing the open hood - the bottom of the truck, including the area behind front wheels will still look as bad as in the Italeri kit

Feel free to ignore the 5 ton engine shots. Fortunately they were taken for others to use as well.Still don't know if M939 engine shots will be useful for me, but these Humvee photos definitely will! :-) Priceless reference, as usual.

Unsure about the type of engine, the students like to take away some shots of the training they get. I either burn a CD or put them on a 3.5" floppy and give it to the instructor. He can either make a copy for interested students or e-mail them the files.Hey Rob

I started adding captions, but didn't get a chance to finish. I took several more shots of an M88 and HEMTT, but have not gotten a chance to upload them. I'm going on leave for the next two weeks so I won't be around as much until September.
