Hey guys. Just found this forum & wanted to get your take on zimmerit applications for a 1/35 scale Tiger 1. I have done several axes tanks but this is the first time attempting zimmerit. What do you guys like to use for the compound?

Hello,

There are many materials people use to replicate zimmerit; although I have never created my own zimmerit I know of some common materials: tamiya 2 part epoxy putty, milliput, squadron putty or Apoxie Sculpt by avesstudio. Personally, if you don't want a bad experience creating your first zimmerit coat, go and order some Apoxie Sculpt (I have some, but again never tried); I've heard great stuff about Apoxie Sculpt. This is because the stuff doesn't dry fast so it gives you time to work.

Again, these are some of the more common ones; there are many other alternative materials.

If you search past threads here and on missing-lynx, you will find many tutorials on Zimmerit, and the pros and cons of various techniques to simulate it, as well as background on the application of the original material.

Phil has a great thread on building Tigers, with his comparisons of zimmerit techniques:

It looks like he used Tamiya putty for his

*Hmmmm.... It looks like the link doesn''t work, you can cut and paste it though...
