I'm getting ready to start building this kit and the instructions give you three options for barrels for the Pak 40 parts #s 25, 26 and 27. Which is which as the instructions leave one clueless as which one to use.

Charles, if you read my review here on Armorama of this kit you will have noted that I noted this issue. Since then I have still found it difficult to get a definitive answer. That being said, I did manage to find a reference that I hope is accurate. Basically, the double flange type was first used from May 1943. Front flange and rear disk type from March 1944. Finally, double disc type. From that, part H27 (double flange/oval) is early, H25 (front flange, rear disk) is mid leaving H26 (double disk) being the late version.

Edit: On a hunch I checked out Griffon Model 1/35 scale metal barrels as they have early, middle and late muzzle brake offerings. With that second source, as far as I am concerned, the above is correct. Where was this information when I was writing my review?

Cheers,
Jan

Thank you Jan. I'm entirely clueless in regards to WWII stuff
