What camo pattern is the Marine on the right wearing and is this an "official" US uniform?

Hey Guys,

If I am not mistaken it's the new MARPAT, originaly designed by the boys at one of the Defence research Establishments with the aid of a computer. Subsquently developed in different colour patterns for various forces including the US Marines I have included a link to a couple of the pages for a bit more info.

Cheers!

Exactly, blackfly. It's MARPAT (MARine PATtern). It's a derrivative of CADPAT (CAnadian Disruptive PATtern). I believe it's produced under license from the Canadian Government.

No, it was developed by the US Army Soldier and Biological Chemical Command (now called Solider Systems Center Natick) at Natick Labs in Massachusetts for the Marine Corps. Click here: Marine Corps Relies on SBCCOM second article down. I watched this on the History Channel's "Mail Call" program.

I believe Natick and The CF cooperated on the development of both patterns (CADPAT and MARPAT).
