Neil: I've seen the same technique used to correct the one piece lower hulls on old Tamiya kits that have suffered from heat exposure or other environmental issues involved in storage. Instead of using sprue however, the modelers used thicker pieces of styrene rod.

Gentlemen...regarding the hull warpage, are you talking about the sides of the hull tub being warped inwards in the middle, so that they have to be eased outward in order to fit the engine deck in between the hull sides? If so, I've encountered this on every Trumpeter KV I've built. [...]
On my kit, it was the forward hull top, as in:
It had to go through a little surgery, as I didn't wan't to put that part under pressure.
Cheers.

Jean-Vincent, I've had the same problem on one or two of my kits. I fixed it by gluing the glacis and driver's plate in place and leaving it overnight to set, before using rubber bands to hold the hull top/turret ring in place and then gluing it down. Haven't had one come loose on me yet (he says, crossing his fingers).

Wow, that almost looks painful guys. Have either of you tried holding a part that's supposed to be flat like that under some hot water against a flat surface, like a bathtub or sink?

Jeremy...yes, and I still have the scald marks to prove it lol.
Seriously though, that's certainly one way to fix the problem. Given that the part is relatively flexible, I found simply clamping and gluing it works just fine for me. There's probably other ways to rectify it too.
Cheers,
Neil

Neil: Ouch! I was just curious as I'm pretty new to all this stuff and I'm also picking up a few of these Trumpeter KV kits.

Small update, sorry about the slow progress outdoor summer projects and the kids out of school keeping me away from the workshop. Anyhoo here is some more progress on the lower portion of the kit with the lower bolt-on armor added.
The road wheels are all removed from the sprues and just need some minor cleaning and they will be ready to mount. Finally the tracks and turret and this bad boy will be ready for the paint shop!

Brandon: Looks great, and I see you repositioned the idler adjustment mechanisms. And don't worry about the time constraints with life, no need for apologies there.
I talked to the guys at Earl's and they actually had a few more of these kits lying around but forgot to re-post them on the website. I promptly ordered one and am looking forward to building it

Agreed. That piece is pretty thin and has no structure perpendicular to the plane resisting bending it. Just gluing it and holding it with my hands for a min was enough to lock it in place for me.

Jeremy, yep, I fixed the idler adjustment mechanisms...you know prior to that discovery i was thinking to myself that this kit goes together so well it is idiot proof..guess I proved myself wrong on that one.
It is funny that you mention the KV's on Earls website, I noticed yesterday they suddenly had several listed for sale and was going to let you know...looks like you are the party responsible for their re-listing!!! I have found their shipping is really fast, let me know how long it takes to get from Utah to Texas please. Thanks!

The nice thing about this kit is that it allows you to model not just an ehkrany-equipped vehicle. The cast road wheels give you the basis for building a 'regular' Model 1940 built from August to November 1941, by omitting the ehkrany and modifying the turret to the 90mm-armored version with the relocated rear-facing episcopes. Details on 4bogreen.com.

Some more progress, just missing the fenders, tracks, and a few other bits.
I am going with the kit-supplied link-n-length tracks, they look nice but each track has two ejector pin marks on the back-side. They are raised marks so all I have to do is sand (better that filling/sanding) but it promises to be a bit time consuming
Thanks for following - B.

Jesse: Good info to know
Brandon: I know the feeling, I think everyone's been there.
And I think you are right about Earl's. They told me they were going to post them ASAP and to let me know if I needed anything else. They actually misrepresented one of their listings and promptly contacted me asking which one I wanted and pulled one of each so that they didn't get sold while they were waiting for my response. After contacting them and squaring away my order it was sent out the door and arrived within 5 days.
Great service, and thanks for recommending them
Your build is looking great, I'm looking forward to seeing how you like those LNL tracks.
Neil: So I'm taking a guess that I can expect you to visit my KV build logs in the future?

Jeremy, I am glad your experience was good. I was just in their shop this past weekend and picked up some paint and yet another kit to hide away in the stash Just curious, which KV versions did you choose?

What stash?
Brandon, I got the following kits:
1941 Small Turret
1942 Heavy Cast Turret
1942 Lightweight Turret
KV-1's Ehkranami
KV-2 Big Turret
KV-2 754(r)
Would have liked a couple others, but they didn't have anymore in stock.

At the sale price and $5 flat shipping fee it was hard to pass up.
For the campaign I think I'll build either the KV-2 with that big ugly turret or one of the 1942 models.
How about you? Any ideas for your campaign build yet?

Jeremy, I have the KV-2 754 (r) in the stash, so that will be my contribution probably built ootb as I have been impressed with the stock parts in this KV-1. I am looking forward to the build, but the german three tone paint scheme should be tricky! It is gonna be hard to hold off until Jan to start building it for the campaign!!

I hear ya, I keep wanting to crack open one of the kits and start going at it. I would too if I weren't rushing to finish three campaign entries for Aug/Sept.
If everyone else it building a KV-2 variant int the Killer KV's campaign, I'll probably go with one of the KV-1 models.

Well Jeremy, you have a easy task to pick one of those for campaign. I have couple more in my stash and I´m already having difficulties to make my choice..
But anyway, that´s a good start for a KV stash, just go get them all.

Working on it Kimmo
We need a build list of what everybody's planning on building in the campaign thread. I'm surprised at how many people are going with the KV-2 variants.

Jeremy, I am very impressed with the bulk of this KV-1 kit, I cant wait to see my KV-2 built up with that huge turret....it should be awesome! And no matter which one you choose to build, you will be happy.

The size of these kits is definitely impressive. I really think I'm going to end up building a KV-2, although I have no doubt I'm going to be happy regardless of the kit I choose as you said

I wonder if I need to check my own?
