Check out Finemold range. Some Finemold kits have been reboxed by Tamiya.

FineMolds is definitely the way to go for 1/35 Japanese armor. They have the only real selection, and they are very high quality and accurate models.
Tamiya has released three kits based on the Type 97 Chassis. The kit of the Chi-Ha is a very old kit that was very respectable in it's day, and with some care and AF detailing parts it can be brought up to modern standards without too much of a fuss.
The type 97 Late Turret I believe is based on Tamiya's old molding of the the Chi-Ha.
They also released the Ho-Ni spg, which includes 4 figures from FineMolds, however I don't know if the spg if Tamiya's own kit or if it is a reboxed FineMolds kit.
Tamiya also released three modern AFV kits which are all excellent
When comparing the Tamiya and FineMolds Type 97 Chi-Ha, the FineMolds kit is hands down the better model with very fine and accurate details that just don't exist on the Tamiya kit.
The FineMolds kits can be tricky to find, but if worse comes to worse you have one of us pick them up from a local hobby shop for you.
In the meantime I would recommend checking out ebay as they are usually the best source online for finding these kits for those living stateside.

For Japanese armor, try LuckyModels or HobbyLinkJapan. Sprue Brothers here in the States also has a decent selection.

I should have stated for Finemolds Janese armor, try LuckyModels, HLJ or Sprue Brothers. Sorry about that.

I love Japanese armor but about the only way to go is FineMolds for plastic. there is also Pitroad but it is really hard to get in the US. Resin there is http://www.japanesearmorking.com/jak3.htm who makes a wonderful Type 89. There are also some great book sby AJ press if you can find them. I stock some of the FineMolds stuff myself. wanamkerHobbies

If you go to Akihabara one day, theres a really good model store that sells used models( don't worry, all the parts are there, or they have labeled them "part built" or "missing parts"). Cant remember the name write now, but ill get back to you on the name soon.

Hello all. I would like to thank everyone for the great responses and information, it is all helpful. I have been building models of all kinds sinse I was 10 and I am almost 51 now. I do mostly ww2 German/US but have done a few other types. Getting kinda board with the same ole builds and have resorted to building german what ifs. but only things that could have been pulled off. Not like a guy I saw with and 88mm on an opel blitz 3 tonner lol. Anyway I want to build some Japanese armor in a diorama. Looks interesting, and at least it's different. My hobby room looks like Bush Gardens with all the Tigers and Panthers ect. Take care guys, and if any of you are in the North Indiana area around south bend /elkhart. I would love to get a IPMS chapter started near here. Keep up the great work. Thanks Travis
