Hi everyone,
I am currently working on a diorama that contains a very muddy hill. Problem is, i dont have a clue on how to realistically replicate mud. I was surfing the net and found a picture of this amazing diorama:

Could you guys out there please give me some tips on how to make my mud look a bit like this?
Thanks a bunch,
M4A2Sherman

hi M4A2Sherman,
there are many products i have tried for mud terrain but one that i used back in the day is still my favourite. i mix real dirt (fine top soil) with fine sand and mix it with water and white glue (75/25 ratio is a good start). i then apply it with a putty knife and/or palette knife. i also mix in fine gravel from the railroad department of the hobby shop. i use 2 different size gravel for a realistic effect. easy to sculpt and to put on vehicles. i think there are many other ways to make mud and i look forward to other suggestions.
cheers, mh

Hi
This has to be one of the best examples of a muddy situation I have ever seen. Its by Brad James a.k.a. Honeycut and although its listed under Watery Effects I think any situation that requires a muddy effect could use this method, just reduce the water amount. As Brad calls it "Mud glorious mud" .Well done Brad.
