Hi all,
I'm currently building Zvezda's SU-100 (#3531) and although I'm not superdetailing it, I do wish to add some details to make the model more interesting. Since I intend to make the vehicle with the hatches open, I wish to add some details to the interior of the hatches. Up till now however, I have been unable to find any pictures or other references of the interior of the two front hatches on top of the fighting compartment. Can anybody help me out?
Greetings,
Max

Hi all,
Maybe someone can help me by posting a picture of the interior of the above mentioned hatches from one of the more advanced SU-100 kits out there (by Dragon eg.). That way I can use them as reference to scratchbuild the interior of the hatches of the Zvezda kit. I already found a couple of pictures, but these are not so clear.
I'm looking for details of the hatches in this picture:
I hope someone can help me getting the detailed shots of these hatches from another kit.
Cheers,
Max

There is a website that might be able to help.....battlefield.ru, click on tanks, assault guns then SU-100. There is a fair picture of a 100 from the back side, you can see the back side of the top square hatch and make out the internal lock.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for your reply and taking the time to help. I also found several reference pictures of that hatch and as a result I added an extra griphandle on that hatch:
It's especially the other two hatches that I need some detailed pictures of.
Greetings,
Max

Looks good....one suggestion....I'd sand some more of the gray filler down...as it will probably show when painted.

Hi Greg,
You're correct and I will sand the gray filler down more. This was just an in progress pic to show what hatch I meant. But thanks for the advice; if there's more, bring it on!

Max

Hi Greg,
It's a kit from Zvezda, #3531. I have rebuild the kit now to close the hatches except for the ones that I could find pictures of. I plan on putting this SU-100 in a diorama, the new configuration will still suit this idea.
Greetings,
Max

Ok, I built this kit years ago...but mine was in grey plastic.... I could be wrong as I don't have my reference with me, but I do believe that this kit is post war (WWII). Has to do with the back side of the casement...has to do with filets(sps) there....the DML one is correct for a WWII SU-100...but once again I don't have the kit with me either....Hopefully someone my comment and either confirm my thoughts or tell me I'm all hosed up...but I do like your weld seams and cast texture on the manlet. I assume your replacing those hidious tracks that come with the kit, if I remember, they don't even fit without breaking the idler off.
Rock on!

Hi Greg,
Thanks for replying again! I'm not an expert on WW2 Soviet armour, but I did do some research. As a result of that, I left the storage box on the righthand side of the SU off. I think this was a post-war thing. About the backside of the vehicle: On reference pictures I sometimes see some kind of tubing coming from under the engine deck and then splitting apart going to the sides. Some SU-100's have this, others not. Is this what you are refering to? Do you have an idea what it is and whether it's wartime or post-war? Here are some pictures to explain what I mean:
If it is a wartime feature (which I tend to think...), I will scratch it.
The tracks will certainly be replaced by tracks from AFV Club. I ordered their 500mm T-34 tracks on ebay. I understood those are the correct ones for late war tracks.
If you're interested, I can post some pics when I'm finished. Normally I only post on Kitmaker Benelux, the dutch speaking section of Kitmaker.
Greets,
Max

Hi Greg,
After I re-read your comment I now understand you're ralking about the split hatch at the rear of the fighting compartment. I think that the early SU-100's had the split hatch and later ones (but still build in WW2) had the simplified hatch which is depicted in the Zvezda kit. Anyway, this is what I understood from browsing the internet and especially Jaques build-log here at Armorama.

Max

Hi all,
It's been a while since my last reply in this topic. I was busy building other kits, but in the mean time I've been working on the SU-100 every now and then. I'm currently painting the details and ran into a problem. Can anyone tell me what colors the vision block of the commanders hatch has? I'm talking about the part on the inside of the vehicle. In this picture it's the vision block in the hatch at the left in the background:
Thanks in advance for taking the effort of looking and thinking about it!
