I recently bought Nato In Miniatures US Infantry on patrol set which I highly recommend and I had a painting question. The figures are painted in ACU but is Multi Cam also appropriate given their current uniforms?

Yes, if you want to depict them in A'stan wearing Multi-Cam uniforms you could. The cut of the Multi-Cam is the same as the cut of the ACU uniform (with a few changes such as buttons replacing some of the velcro, etc.). Visually in 1/35 scale, they are the same though. They need to be placed in A'stan since Multi-Cam is only being issued to troops deployinhg there, but not in Iraq.

Are you sure about that, Gino? Crye Precision is the company that developed MultiCam pattern and Crye stuff definitely has a different cut from ACU... the main differences can be seen on knee and elbow inserts, additional pockets, etc:
More on Crye Precision stuff can be found here: Crye Precision
and some great uniform "walkarounds" here: Military Morons
Now, I own a pair of BDU cut pants that were made of MultiCam material and I have seen ACU cut uniforms in MultiCam pattern as well... but I don't think those are issued to troops in Afghanistan, only original Crye uniforms in their specific cut.

From all the Army bulletins I have seen, the cut of the uniform accepted and fielded by the US Army is the same as the ACU cut. Maybe the original Crye prototypes were different, but fielded uniforms look the same to me.

OK, this was an interesting topic for me so I browsed a bit...
Although SF operatives were wearing MultiCam for years now (those guys obviously had a possibility to wear whatever they wanted), 75th Ranger Regiment was first to receive MultiCam in Stan. They started with Crye’s Multicam BDUs, with the knee and elbow pad inserts. Those were not in ACU cut. I've seen loads of pictures of those (link)... However, I also found several pictures of troops in Stan wearing MultiCam uniforms not in Crye original cut. Those are often ACU cut, but also BDU cut. Now, I have no clue what is the standard MultiCam issue uniform for US Army in Stan... I do know Crye stuff is expensive and they had problems taking large orders some time ago. So perhaps, US Army decided to test MultiCam in their original Crye cut and then decided to bypass Crye and use their ACU cut as a good enough MultiCam alternative?

The current issue Multicam uniform is the ACU cut being manufactured by Propper. How ever private purchase uniforms by Crye, TRU-spec and ultra force (usualy the BDU cut ones you see) in different cuts are seen often as there was not enough Propper uniforms at the time of approval for regular units in Afghanistan to begin wearing them.
