Heya, Folks,
I tend to build WWII subjects, so please bear with me...
It seems like a number of aftermarket companies like Legends and Real Model (I think) are releasing great-looking (and expensive!) armor upgrade and modification sets for existing Humvee kits...
Is there no kit manufacturer such as Tamiya, Dragon, Trump, or Hobby Boss, that either has released or has plans to release any of these up-armored Humvee variants in kit form in 35th scale...? Seems like the perfect opportunity for one of Dragon's 3-in-1 kits, though I think my preferred manufacturer would be Tamiya or Hobby Boss.
Anyway, apologies if this has been hashed and re-hashed --- just watched "Generation Kill" and even though those Humvees were not up-armored, seeing 'em tooling around got me interested... And even though I cannot afford it, that Legends Frag 5 set looks waaaaay cool --- I was wondering why nobody released one out of the box (probably too recent?).
Thanks, Folks!
Regards and Aloha,
Johnny B.

Nope, there are no current or planned Uparmored HMMWV kits in plastic.
The two companies that offer conversion kits are Legends (M1114 and M1151) and Mig (M1114).
In my opinion, the Legends kits are much better and go together better.
Good luck.

I have not seen this confirmed anywhere so I personally consider it a rumor but who knows?

First I have heard of that. Good news if it is true. We shall see.

Woof. That is good news, Erik! As Gino says, hopefully this is more than a rumor (Great Models has had a new M42 Duster listed on their site for some time now). Got my fingers crossed as this would no doubt be a much cheaper option thatn going the after market route...
So that begs another question: so if this kit is an M1114 Humvee, would it have the Frag5 armor/etc. as well? Or would this be an upgrade that would have to be approached as another kit variant or another aftermarket set...? Again, apologies if this is an ignorant question, but if it ain't WWII or Vietnam, I am not overly conversant.
I would hazard a guess that kits of any of the more modernized Humvees would sell like crazy with many buyers purchasing more than one... Would also be great to see Dragon, AFV, Trump or Hobby Boss getting into a "battle of the Humvee kits" (a la the panzer kit wars) so we could end up with lots of choices...
Thanks again, gents.

It depends on when they depict it from. It could be anwhere from a standard M1114 with flat armored doors up to a Frag 5 kit and everything in between. No way to know until the suspected kit is shown.

Agreed, however for approx $40 versus $90 the Mig set does make a nice early M1114

After seeing what Trumpeter is coming out with and since aftermarket products and conversions are often followed up by plastic kit releases I think more up-armored releases are just around the corner. I wouldn't have expected it from Bronco though, Id've thought Academy would be the first to do one after their IED truck.
The Legend kits, while expensive, are well worth the money. I just finished up their M1114 and got the 1151 just this week. They take longer (took me 2-3 weeks for the 1114 in my spare time, but I don't see how plastic could beat the detail.)
Although with all the goodies included in plastic kits now they are catching up quickly.
I am looking forward to seeing how Legend progresses and what becomes of this Bronco news.

It would be nice if we could get some up armored HMMVVs in plastic. That said, the Legend kits, although challenging, are pretty cool. I built one earlier this year (M1151) and it come out pretty well. Yes, a bit pricey; but it takes a more time to convert the Tamiya kit... and so you buy fewer kits and build more slowly. The upshot is you get great satisfaction and a product you won't see everywhere.
