My son just turned 16 and finially built his "first model". By the time I was his age I had built dozens of aircraft. But then again, there was no computers, internet, video games, cell phones etc.... when I was 16 (that was back in 1976!!)
For his first kit I got him the Taymia T-62. I know how incorrect and out of scale it is but I wanted an inexpensive kit that would go together with minimal effort. The only thing I really helped with was getting the rubber band track on and close supervision with the airbrush.

Nice story and good work!
As I remember correctly, I´ve built my first kits in 1988 at the age of 11.
Most of them where left unpainted, but applied with the decals.
Some of them were painted using the provided (in the kit were glue and paint)
colors, but this was an "ugly" job.
Today I would compare the type of colors with enamel-colors.
greetings...

Your son deserves credit for a very well applied paint finish, and what looks to be a cleanly built model. Well done.

Great job! That kit was one of my first kits after I really got serious with my modeling--fond memories there! Your son did an excellent job with an excellent kit, and I have to give him credit for the camouflage scheme. I made mine just a flat Soviet green, as I hadn't invested in an airbrush when I built my T-62. Keep up the great work!

This is awesome! I'm wondering if we should have a sub-section on here for young modelers, maybe something like "Keepers of the Flame" or something?

Really good first job: Nice clean & tidy build, paint job neatly applied. He should stick with it.
Tracks need painting more of a "track colour" though.

Greetings,
Robert Jr. read all of the positive comments and is impressed!!!! Not only were your comment so kind, but helped as a confidence builder for him. I think we all know what is was like at that age; it's is the time to define who/what we will be as adults.

Rob

Hi Bob and Son
Having just introduced my two girls to modelling over these lasttwo weeks of summer holidays I know the fun this brings. Hope your son keeps the interest in between looking for future college, job hunting, dating and other life factors at his age.
He has done great work there and hope he sees the future of constructing more models from his or your stash.
Thanks for sharing
