I just got the Blast Models update for the LAV-A2 and was looking at a couple other Legends updates and I was wondering what would be the best way to reproduce the thick Ballistic Glass that is found on some vehicles like the LAV-A2. I was thinking that using the clear plastic from a CD case might work, since its on the thick side and is polystyrene, but if someone else has any suggestions, I'm all ears...

Hay Scott,
A technique i found to work very well, is to use red or purple reflective card with iridescent film sandwiched between it, and a piece of clear plastic.
You will end up with something like the optics on this leopard 2.
Hope that helps?
Scott.

I used some 2mm plastic sheet, with green window tinting film bought from ebay on my buffalo.
It was a bit dark, but the 2mm sheet was a good buy. I have some left if you want it, PM me your address, i think i have some film left to.

I used .30 clear plasticard sandwiched between two peices of clear green plastic film on my Mastiff build. It was a little dark but it gave the desired effect.
I will be using the same technique on my Bulldog.
Good luck.

You can try clear CD case styrene and then tint some Future with blue food coloring. Hand brush one or both sides, vary the tint intensity, etc.
Another way is to use the CD plastic and color one or both sides with blue HI-Lite felt marker. This works for other sight glass requirements as well.
Test,test,test.
Cheers!

For that thickness I wonder if this would work: take a clear plastic tooth brush handle, cut ot the proper size of glass, and then polish the cut and sanded edges with a plastic polishing kit like the model car guys use and then coat with Future to restore the clarity?

I say that is exactly what you should do...
this is lifted from Ryan Hardens great looking TUSK I he did for the ArmorData book we put out last April (from SAM Publications). you can do a search here on Armorama for TUSK and his thread will pop up. But the CD case is exactly what he did, and it looked spot on. Even better in person!
BTW, guess what the LAV-A2 is being built for....yep, a USMC in OIF Armordata book!
