Hello:

I am trying to get some information on the following two Bedford vehicles.

(A) Was this ever used in WWII as a transport? I haven't had much luck finding out too much information on this vehicle and it has more of a civilian look to it then military even though many civilian vehicles were made for military service.

(B) I was wondering what were the years of service that they were used in during WWII (taking into consideration losses and etc) and what units might they have been assigned to?

Also, were these also used by any of the Commonwealth armies?

Thank you in advance.

This site lists Bedford truck types:

http://fleetdata.co.uk/bedfordchassis.html

According to it :

the type OS (3 ton short wheelbase) was introduced in June 1939 and produced until March 1953. Production for the civilian market was suspended in 1940 and resumed in 1945. However the site also lists OSA (5 ton short), OSL (5 ton long) and OSS (5 ton articulated tractor) built in 1945.

I think the modell is an OSS. See photo here:

the type OX was a 30cwt truck produced in 1940 for the Ministry of Supply

I have been looking at pictures of Bedford trucks on the net. Unfortunately very few are identified as to type. It appears to me that there is very little differance (maybe none) in the appearance of the 3 ton OS and 5 ton OS trucks. The only identified 5 ton and only tractor/trailer I found is the OSS I refered to in the previous post.. It is possible that there were 3 ton OS tractor/trailer combos, which the model could represent.

Thank you Highway 70 for your response and for the link to the Bedford web site, it was very interesting and I plan to go through it again in more depth.

Thank you again.
