Multiple times I have seen people casting figures with milliput or other putties. How is this done?

There's a guy (Noel) that's just posted a dio in M-L's Constructive Criticism forum that cast figures using Milliput. Perhaps he'll be able to help. I wish I could be of help by providing the direct link, but for some reason my work firewall blocks the Network54 (or whatever ML's on) sites.
