Trying to find photos, diagrams of the markings on U.S. tanks at Checkpoint Charley confrontation with Soviet armor in early 60's. I believe the tanks were M48's but not sure. Thanks for any help.

I found the below pics on the incident at Check Point Charlie, a stand-off between U.S. Army M48 tanks and Soviet T55 tanks during the border dispute of late October 1961. They look like M48A1 tanks. I can't tell the unit though.
It looks like the front two were dozer tanks. Acoording to the caption, they were from the 40th Armor (Berlin BDE) at Friedrichstraße.
Steven Zolaga supports this in his book The M47 and M48 Patton Tanks:
"M48A1 of Company F, 40th Armor (Berlin BDE) stands watch on Friedrichstraße (Check Point Charlie) in Berlin during the October '61 crisis."
Hope that helps and good luck.

cool photos Gino! Has anyone ever seen the large US star on the dozer blade like that before? That's a new one for me but it does look pretty neat.
