Model of the Gun Truck Brutus http://groups.msn.com/armorama/otto.msnw?
This is the truck that Larry Dahl was assigned to as a gunner. Larry won the Congressional Medal of Honor in Feb 1971. He is one of two drivers of the Transportation MOS to receive this Nations highest Award for bravery during the Vietnam War. This truck saw more action than most other trucks of the 541st Trans Company. This crew as all the Gun Truck crews deserve all the recognition that this nation can give them. Because of their selfless actions they saved many lives including your truly. Not to mention the supplys that were able to get thru to the troops and civilians that needing them.

That looks very nice Animal! Call me stupid, but what kind of gun is that at the rear?
I really like the orange stripes and the little history that goes with the truck. It adds a "real-life" perspective.

It's an XM 134 Mini gun. This is one of the three variations this truck took on during it's short life. Besides Larry Dahl the driver was also killed and one other crew member was WIA. Larry fell on to a hand grenade that was thrown into the gun box during an ambush. He died because of his heroic action and saved the lives of his fellow crew members.

Isn't that some kind of Vulcan mini gun? With the kind of firepower I've heard that thing has I'd say those two .50s were kind of overkill.

Great looking truck Animal. My Dad was a driver of a duce and a half. Nice to know a couple of guys driving those things got the recognition they deserved.

Thanks for the compliments. Rodger was your Dad in Vietnam? Do you know what unit he might have been in? If you think that the Brutus was a overkill withonly two 50's and a mini than you should see the Cold Sweat. This truck had 2 mini's and four 50's, plu a twin 60 in the cab for the Driver to use.

. Rodger was your Dad in Vietnam

Sorry, I should have made it clear, he as in WWII. He was a driver for the 9th, Tactical, Air Force until transfered to the Infantry to re-equip units due to the Battle of the Bulge. He was in the 1st Infantry Division, The Big Red One, 1st of the 26th Regiment, HQ Company, AT Platoon. His unit had 57mm AT guns towed behind half-tracks.

I did have fun building this one. I had been planning to build it last year but with all the other projects that came up it got pushed to the back burner. I am building the Lil Brutus Gun Jeep to go with Brutus.

By the way, do you have any update photos of the camel or the runner yet?

I took some of "'Runner" last night - but no upload yet - perhaps this evening. I'm still in the process of glossing the body to blend in the decals. He's wearing all the basic markings, national symbols, bumper codes & Military Police pennants. I made all of these this past weekend. I ran out of decal sheet to print the "Road Runner" cartoon logo though - but placed an order with MicroMark. They're pretty fast, should be here by the weekend so that I can put him on the armored car.

I like Micro mark. I order a lot of stuff from them. In fact I have an order I'm waiting on now. I use the rust-all product a lot along with the dusting pastels. They are very prompt in sending out your orders and their prices are very competitive and sometimes a lot cheaper than most of the compitiors.
