Hi all.
Just bought Zvezda´s new 1/35 german 37mm Pak 36 modelkit and because colours are given only as Modelmaster colours, I used IPMS Stockholm colour reference chart. Results for HU colours were quite odd: for ammocase HU47 (flat sea blue) and for Pak HU125 (satin U.S. dark grey)? I had always thoughed, that HU67 (panzer grey), is answer for all german, atleast almost, early AFV and artillery. Can somebody give right amswer?

Kimmo, from the last few reviews that I've done, and the ensuing research, Panzer Grey or Dark Yellow are the closest colours. So far I have found that Tamiya XF-63 German Grey with a touch of white works quite well. The other Tamiya colour that I have used is XF-60 Dark Yellow. I have a review of the Dragon SdKfz 251 w/ PaK 35/36 that will be out shortly and I did a build of the little PaK. If you really are in a hurry I can PM you a link to some pictures of it. I did it in Dark Yellow. The HU67 is somewhat darker than the Tamiya colour. From a previous half-track I did (252/10) that had the ammo boxes, I painted them a lightened XF-63.

Hope this helps,
Jan

Panzer Gray (Dunkelgrau) is correct for a Pak 36, unless you want to place it in North Africa (possible, though the Germans were switching to the 5 cm gun by then). Dunkelgrau was a very dark charcoal gray, but even a light coat of road dust could lighten its apparent color quite dramatically. The gun and components would all be this color, though slight variations between paint batches could occur.
Metal components of infantry kit for the crew, like helmets and gas mask cases, were supposed to be painted to approximately match the woolen uniform fabrics, so a shade of gray-green Field Gray (Feldgrau) would be seen on those.
