Barbed wire tends not to be very orange when it gets exposed to the elements, nor does it have a lot of texture you'd see in anything but real life. My standby exposed metal favorite is ModelMaster Burnt Iron metalizer. It has a light reddish tint, but generally just looks like exposed metal. Give it a wash of dark gray/black then maybe just the lightest, very lightest dark anondized gray, also from MM.

I usually paint it dark grey (Tamiya's German grey) and then give it a light wash of burnt umber mixed in with orange to give it a hint of rust.
