Gun breech. the crew protection pieces for the recoil. are those white (like in a modern tank), or would they have been metallic like the rest of the main gun?

The gun breach, as well as the rest of the turret interior, were painted OD during WWII so as not to stand out too much. Most modern pics show a white interior, but from the resources I have seen the only white paint was in the hull interior, not the turret.

Rob is correct, everything in the turret's interior was painted OD green save for the gun breech itself. This was left clean steel.

Hi Blaster, I don't know what kind of paints you use, but I did my Academy M18 recoil guard the same as the rest of the TD ............ with Humbrol 155 Olive Drab, and like Ken mentions the breech itself was steel. I dug up alot of reference on M18 turret interior and painted the inner & outer breech accordingly. For that I used Humbrol Polished Steel ( HU7003 ). I was really saitisfied with the results. ( .. I had to return the camera before I assembled, painted and installed the gun breech in the turret so the only pic's I have are up until that time ... sorry ).

Here's a top view of the turret's interior from the Academy kit I built I awhile back - before weathering. I hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for the info Rob. I'm about to start work on my M-18 Hellcat, as well. The website, Capt. zer0_co0l will be a great help.
