I went to purchase Eduard's new detail set for the AFV Club M35A1 Quad.50 "Nancy" gun truck (#35439) and when opening up the package I find that they referenced my website (not me or my company's entity 'GunTruck Studios') and turned some of my conversion details and artwork into Express Masks and photoetched parts for detailing this kit. They did give my site a reference listing on the first page of the five-page instruction set.
Needless to say, I was miffed at first because they certainly didn't ask me before producing and marketing the set - I would have endorsed it! But, I'm elated too because when I saw that they gave my work the reference credit for this Detail Set - and this is the first time something like that has happened to me before.
If you were me - what would you do - if anything at all other than be totally jazzed?!?

I would call and discuss the whole matter with them and see what they say. Heck, it sure couldn't hurt. They may even ask to use more of your stuff, you may never know

Thanks Penny - I don't have a telephone number to their Czech address, but I've tried sending them a message via their website...

First and foremost. If "I were you", I'd be both elated and honoured! I must say though that they did indeed take some rather extensive liberties with using your artwork and details on their packaged product (certainly more than they could get away with in this country). As Penny said, I would contact them immediately regarding the matter. At this point there are two ways to 'flavour' the contact with them, and that is either with sugar or vinegar. Again, if I were you, I would begin the conversation with sugar. Who knows, maybe they have had problems contacting you directly, or just simply 'dropped the ball' on the whole thing. Either way, an affiliation with a company like Eduard would be a feather in your cap, and possibly many other things.
Put simply Gunnie, choreograph the whole thing into a 'positive' thing, because your alternative would be rather expensive.
Personally, I am absolutely ECSTATIC for you! Because you deserve that kind of recognition! Just let it ride.....and use it to your advantage. :-)

Thanks a bunch Tread - I respect your opinion.
I did shoot them a message, and went with the "sugar" approach you recommended . I agree, I'd love to build it into an affiliation rather than the ugly alternative!
Right now I'm pretty stoked! The wife is gonna frame one - I'm soooo embarrassed...
Think I'll return to workin' on a gun truck model now...

Congrats Gunnie !!!
Just shows us again that YOU belong to the best :-)
How about you suggest to them to 'test' their sets ?
I'd love to be able to tell em what I want without paying.....

Gunnie, I totally agree with what Tread had to say.
Honestly though, this couldn't have happened to a nicer or more deserving modeler. Your work is top notch and to 'make it big' as they say, is hard to do in this hobby and you are more than deserving. Please keep us up-to-date as you can so we can share in this great experience. Congragulations!

Gunnie,
I agree with your first impressions, that it's an honor to have been recognized and referenced,BUT their's is still a COMMERCIAL enterprise and you should definately have been contacted at the very least . BUT you probably shouldn't bite the hand that could potentialy feed you!
What I would do has already been mentioned. I'd find out exactly what services I could offer and go from there. To be a consultant to Eduard would INDEED be a feather in anyone's cap
GOOD LUCK
Chuck
p.s. maybe a P/E set for the ONTOS would be in order!!!! :-)

:-) Well it's all been pretty clearly stated here. However from a MFG's point of view, you should certainly have been contacted first. God knows Warriors had to bite the bullet in such an incident!! Anyways, if they had your info, they could have just as easily asked your opinion. On the other hand as was pointed out use this to your best advantage. If they don't "reciprocate" properly, you could simply withdraw your endorsement. Did I say that? Anyways, your a top nothch modeler, the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Plastic pudding in this case.

Gunnie,
I have seen Colin Adair around some of the modeling websites from time to time and he seems like a pretty reasonable guy. I'm willing to bet that if you sent him an e-mail... he would make this right. And, he might even be interested in using more of your work in the future.
As the products from this company keep improving, it seems that they have not given up on research and attention to detail.
You can reach him at - [email protected].
Good Luck,
Tim

Wow Gunnie! That's great!
Yeah, I'd agree with the others on this one. That rocks that your models would be on box art though! I hope I'm as good as you someday!!! :-) Well, it takes a lot of time and training to be a Jedi anyway....

Gunnie,
That's cool that your work is at least somewhat recognized. I am sure they would agree to credit you by name if they used your artwork. Talk to them about the endorsement if you are so inclined. Seems like that would make good sense for them.

I would have to think there is a definate way to make this a win win for everyone. And how awsome you must feel now, that is so cool. By the way I got to see one of your models in person at the San Antonio model shop near San Jose and pictures don't do your work justice, your work is incredible.

A deep thank you to everyone who've given me advice here! I knew all of you wouldn't steer me wrong - what a great site!
I haven't heard from Eduard yet - but with Penny's and Tim's suggestions - I do have a way of contacting them. I'll let you know what ultimately transpires. I'm thinking positively right now.
