Hi all,

I'm thinking of building a NW Europe Staghound and have not chosen between the Bronco or Italeri/Tamiya kit yet.

To your knowledge, which one stood above the other ?

Your comment and recommendation are most welcome !

Cheers,

Li

Bronco. With the Italeri one you have to replace the gun which is completely incorrect. Although, IMO, the Bronco one is a little over-engineered with lousy instructions, it's the best on the market.

Both are good, but after building around 6 Bronco ones (Mark III included) and, if time permits, starting a Boarhound Conversion, I can personally recommend the Bronco one.

I agree that the Bronco kit is heads and shoulders above the Italeri / Tamiya kit in the fidelity of detail, but as Jim says, the kit is a harder than necessary build becaause of its engineering and instructions.

You will have to replace the Bronco antenna bases which are supplied as the US-types but should be the "A-set / B-set - No. 19 Radio" types.

The Italeri / Tamiya kit does have a basic interior, though.

If you want the vehicle opened up and money is no obstacle, get both and cross-kit the Italeri / Tamiya interior into the Bronco kit.

If an interior is not wanted, though, go with the Bronco kit and just add the new antenna bases.

Hi

As Mike says, it depends what you want from a model. Sometimes the bronco kit can be hard to find. Amazingly in the UK its the Italeri kit that seems not only to be easily available but sells at a third more than the Bronco kit. I can't really go with that......

I'd be happy to own and build the Bronco or Italeri kits and I don't think you'd miss out by buying either one. Putting aside the misshaped barrel on the Italeri I'd even go as far as to challenge all but the rabid Staghound devotee to be able to tell which is which from a well made example unless stood side by side.

Here is a link to a build of the Italeri kit. Certainly looks like a nice kit to my eyes.
Anthony Sheeds Italeri build

Here is one of the Bronco
Rick Lawler's Bronco build

I choose these two guys because they are exceptional modellers and certainly within the same league as each other as regards skill etc.

Whatever you choose, be happy and enjoy making the kit because that is what its all about.
