Hi Roy - I can't see the picture you posted, but I'd be interested to hear what you thought of the kit. I picked it up on a whim and it's been sitting in my closet ever since. The reviews I've read give it high marks ... lots of detail, almost like two or three kits in one, but fiddly. How did you find it? How long did it take you?

hi bill
i built it from the box but there is a lot of super detailing you can add to it .
its a gem of a kit to build i think it took me about 10 evenings to build and 3 evenings to paint.it fits together really well with only a couple of areas that need defects filling....it is fiddely in a couple of areas the front suspension and axel is messy in that you need three hands to build it but nothing major hard i have just blogged the build on www.modelarmour.com go take a look and see what you think i enjoyed it, it made a change from the last 2 scratch built models i have blogged on the M.A.site .....you will enjoy the build bill and the end product is very satisfying...

Roy,
I don't think the Russian are using the SA-2 anymore, most of the air defense have gone to self contained vehicles. IE vehicles that transport the missiles, track and fire with out the need of other equipment except for a C&C vehicle. It's probably one reason why you can't find any pictures of the thing in 2 or 3 color scheme. Most of the pictures I have seen of the truck and trailer are from it's hayday back in the 60's and 70's in overall green. You could do a parade vehicle with the white stripes and wheels to break up the overall green, but your best bet for a camo would be for an Egyptian version.

Roy,
Either way your SA-2 looks great, green or no green. The finish looks the part, nice and simple, the red fire extinguisher and missile helps to break up the overall green. I still have to work on mine, except I will be just building the truck since the missile and trailer are MIA somewhere in my storage unit. Great job Roy.

Roy - Thirteen nights from start to finish? Holy cow! My last build took 3.5 months and probably wasn't as good. Thanks for the link to modelarmour.com. I wasn't aware of that site, so now I busy reading through everything. Anyway, really nice job on the SA-2.

i have built a russian version and painted it in green as i could not find any pictures of it in a russian camo
I doubt these were being used after the Russians started to use camo. The Chinese still had them though, that I wouldn't rule out. Others as well, as it went, yours looks right.
Went through your blog, you did such a great job I'm having second thoughts about selling mine.
