hey there guys, just posting afew pics of my soon to be first diorama.
am portraying an early eastern front diorama (1942/1943) and there is a river/ditch kindda thing with quite a steep incline, there are bunch of russians running up it to get the victims above it ( DML's pzkpfw 38t, masterbox munition schlepper and tank crew) these are all at the front bit of the diorama and further to the back, there is a gang of germans in winter dress (DML's stalingrad inferno and ostfront combatants) these are all crowded round russian jeep/ lendlease willys jeep, that has had russian crew in it, this crew has been shot and killed, the jeep then crashed into a tree they fell out/ got dragged out, haven't decided yet (this is why i needed to know about the blood and all) about 20, 1/35, scale yards behind the jeep there is a thin wooden log with one of there helmets on it, these germans are seeing who is the best shot out all of them and who can hit.
And that about concludes my lecture on my diorama that i am creating.

here's my pics of how the layout of the diorama will be:

these figures will be the russians

the paint pots are soon to be the munitionschlepper and there is also the pzkpfw 38t asking for amunition

the british figure will be telling the other one where there is abunch russians that need to be dealt with are

these two figures are just having a smoke

here are the dead russians and the makeshift shooting range

any comments are welcome. i shall be adding more posts to this so that you can all guide me and tell me what and what not to do in this diorama.
cheers, stan

Well, the first comment would be to post better pictures.
You can't expect us to take the time to respond when you don't even take the time to make somewhat correct pictures.

So the only comment for now woud be that for any newcomer such a big dio with 20+ figures is not recommanded and you should aim lower.

Rant over, hope you understand

Hi Stan, nice idea for a diorama but being your first might i suggest you try something smaller first? Though i've had a bit of experience with building kits on and off over the years I only made my first dio a few months ago and they are a lot of work!
Starting out with something smaller will give you the chance to gain experience with dio making materials.I know I sure learn't a lot of do's and dont's with mine! You can always do a big Dio after you've learn't a few tricks on smaller ones.

Nice progress on the pz38t, white wash can be tricky! The muffler needs toning down though and maybe a bit of whitewash as well (blackened by the exhaust fumes etc). And maybe a little more work on wear and tear on the white wash, such as raised surfaces and area's the crew would be frequently walking on etc. And of course some in focus photos would be good
Would have liked to have a look at the jeep,is it a GAZ-67?
Hope that's helpful, and good luck with your Dio!

Hi Stan, it is a bit big and while there's nothing wrong with aiming high my feeling is that is better wen starting out to work small. I'm also not quite sure what's going on, Are the Russians running away or what? Also I think in such a big space the idea about the germans taking potshots at the helmet on the stake will be lost.

If you don't have a tripod then closeups will not work. Try to take your photos outside, out of sunlight. This will give you a good depth of field. Take wide shots and you can then crop the pics for details.

Failing that a sketch is sometimes better when workng out ideas.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your idea.

hi claude, i do understandwhat you mean. i have been working on this idea for a fair few months now and practicing on small piece of wood teaching my self how to make mud and snow look generally realistic.
seen as you have great talent at dioramas i have taken into account what you have said and made this diorama smaller; i have cut out the russians and the makeshift shooting range and have moved those two figures having a smoke to were the NCO is informing the tank commander were the russians are.

about the photos, i shall try to take afew more, better, focused ones. truly am sorry about the photos.
this is not my first diorama, i have made two more and am finally making a third for a competion in february.
thanks stan
