G'day gents ,
I just recently got the above hobby boss kit ( wow!!! very impressive ) & have decided I want to do an Italian army version for something different !
I just have a few questions and was hoping someone here might know the answers I'm looking for.
So here goes :
1) There is no radio in the radio rack in the kit & I want to put one in ; does the Italian army use singars radios or do they use something else?
2) Are there any suitable modern Italian AFV crew figures on the market & where could I obtain them ?
3) Are there any differences ( exterior & interior ) on the Italian AAV7A1s compared to U.S. AAV7A1s ?
4) Does anyone have any good reference pictures of the Italian army camouflage uniform ?
any help would be greatly appreciated !
Happy modeling !!
Cheers ,
Andy

Hi Andrew
Did you see these pics ? :
http://www.ferreamole.it/images/aav7/aav7.htm
According to the text, Italian AAV7A1s are fitted with SINCGARS radios, but I don't know what they look like

Hi Andy,
there is a ARIETE MBT crew from Royal Model. I attached the link for it from my LHS, just to have a look at it.

G'day guys ,
Thanks very much for the prompt replies!! Alex ; those figures look ideal ( I'll just have to add lower torso's and legs (?) as the amtrac will have all hatches open for all to see).
Frenchy ; thanks for the website , that certainly cleared up the radio question!! and it doesn't look like there are any differences between Italian and U.S. AAV7A1s .
The uniforms look like they'll be fun to paint .
I want to do this model as part of the Italian contingent to UNIFIL 2006 in Lebanon...
does anyone have any good pictures of this vehicle during this period??
Once again , thanks guys.
Cheers ,
Andy

You're welcome Andy. In fact Italian AAVs are fitted with a laser warning receiver :
Here's a nice sketch of an Italian UNIFIL AAV in Lebanon :
But you'll find more pics of Operation Leonte (2006-2008) here :

Hi Frenchy,
As always I enjoy the pics you find (actually kind of envious of your computer skills,as my are limited)
Would you know what military group(?) the M151A2 belongs to? the licence plate appears to be local authorities? It looked to be in real good condition.
Any thoughts anyone?
Thanks,
Jake
That would be the entry above mine with the AAVP illustration.

Hi John
It belongs to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). Here's another one in 2007, with similar plates (an a recoilless gun) :
The Italian text mentions a LAF "12th Battalion" based in Tyre

found some more modern Italian tank crews over at PMMS:

g'day again guys ,
thanks for all your help . Unfortunately , I leave tomorrow on work related business for about a month & so I wont have any time to do my Italian AAV7A1 . Frenchy : the laser warning receiver should not be hard to build (may have to guess the height /diameter though ).
Alex ; thanks for the link to PMMS in regards to a suitable crew , they certainly look impressive !! Are they resin or plastic ? just curious .
Happy modeling !!
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andrew,
than have good luck on your business trip.
As far as I know the Royal Model ones are of Resin and the Model Victoria ones, too, I think.
Cheers Alex

G'day Moreno , I looked at these & I've decided I'm going for the Lgunari Leonte mission decals . They really are nice , thanks for the information.

Best choice!
I also was in the Lagunari army many years ago.
So I will do mine the same way.
