For the past 3 months I have been working on Tamiya M113. It's an old kit so I have made some changes and added a few things that I hope have made it look a little better. Comments and questions are welcome.

I'm a big fan of the M113 family and I have to say this looks awesome. How did you find the kit?

Thank you! I got the kit off of Ebay. It went together very well typical Tamiya.

very nice! Nice work on the figure as well. If you build another one, leave the mud shields on the sides off as most of the time they were removed (not always, but most of the time) I've seen the interiors done in the light green and a few done in gloss white as well (green was most common).
You do a nice M113!

Thanks!! Yes the side skirts were off most 113's, but I wanted to make a early war 113 most of which came in country with the skirts attached.

I think it looks awesome. Around the hull top openings for the driver's hatch and the TC cupola, a black cushioned pad was bolted in to mitigate the bruising when being thrown around in the hatches. It would become torn in short order, but it really shows up. And, if you could close off the driver's hatch periscope opening. The periscope is in storage aginst the inside wall of the driver's compartment, and when stored, a metal blanking plate is inserted into the hatch opening.
Overall, a very good looking model with lots of detail. For a very old Tamiya kit, you did a great job!

It looks great. You really spiced up the old Tamiya kit. The only other thing I see is the rear lights are off. Only the left upper oval should be red. The other side is a black slit as part of the blackout drive/marker system. It should look like below, still the same light system on modern M113A3s.
Great job overall. A few tweaks and it will be even better.

Thanks Jim! How is the plate attached? Do you have a picture?

Thanks Gino!! I knew I missed something. Is that slit black or really dark red? Your picture didn't come through.

Very nice build. I would point out that infrared lenses seen on the front of 1960's and 70's era US vehicles are not red, they are opaque, either black or a very dark purple-brown color. Also, the M113's side skirts were metal at the front and back, but the long center section was dark gray rubber, generally unpainted. The rubber's texture tended to hold dust, so it stood out from the OD finish even when the vehicle was pretty dirty.

Hi Terry,
Great job! I love the feel of the scene.
Couple of questions: 1) How did you do the green viewing blocks around the drivers hatch & 2) how did you do the headlights/redlights on the front?
I think the fold-down chair on the rear ramp adds a really nice touch.
Just one thing. You mentioned an early war piece. The M16 in the back has a 30 round mag & they weren't seen until much later on. Just a thought.
Nice work.
Joe.

The slit is black. The center is about a 1/2 inch red section (like -- --) , but it doesn't really show up in 1/35 scale. The two slits below the ovals should also be black. They have two clear sections about 1/2 each across the slit (like - -- -) , but again, too small in 1/35 scale to show. They are best represented with a solid, gloss black line.

Thanks Joe! The headlight are made by drilling out the kit parts then painting the drilled out area silver. Next I fill them with 1 minute epoxy. For the red I use Tamiya clear red paint. The periscope lens are Tamiya clear green over the base olive green. Thanks about the rifle.

I love the look of the interior. It looks so much like the real thing. Nice touch with the chair out on the ramp.

Solid work. Enjoyed looking at this one and seeing everyone’s comments.
Terry, I like the look of the green episcopes. I think Ill borrow your technique on future projects. Thanks for telling us how you achieved the effect. Great details on the stowage. Love the 77 set with handset on the pintle armoured shield.

we started seeing 30 round mags in the late spring of 1968. The first ones I saw were used by the local VC near LZ Dotty
