Recently I had to chance to examine up close a Stryker recently returned from theatre, and noted it sported solid plate-style armor below the slat to protect the road wheels. I don't recall ( but I could be wrong) seeing anyone replicating this on any models built up to this point, and was wondering what this armor is referred to, and is it offered in any of the AM upgrade sets?

I don't think any AM company includes it in any of their sets. I did them using sheet styrene and PE boltheads on the M1127 I did for a customer in late '08.
I happen to be currently building the same vehicle for the same customer again since the original was destroyed in a move.

If my information is correct, this type of armor used since 2008, but with a new slat armor 1.5''x 1.5''. old type of slat armor was 2''x 2''.

Thanks, Gino; I had a little more time to look it over a bit more closely today and I can see it wouldn't be hard to do with styrene just as you described. Would have loved to have had a camera with me today had OPSEC allowed it, LOL

Milo, I believe these did indeed have the closer-spaced slat on them too, and I'm glad you mentioned it to remind me to look. The armor I had been referring to originally was the solid "plank" armor below the slat covering the tires.

At the risk of sounding opportunistic, I sell a Stryker CD that has all of the latest upgrades, as of two months ago. It has the armor you want to do. It's $14.99 plus $2.00 shipping in the US. Let me know if you are interested. Oh, you'll actually have the latest upgrade which no one has yet - the engine shots that Legend is using for their upcoming engine release.
