Hi All,

I've just finished assembling a 1:35 Dragon King Tiger (early krupp turret version the so-called "Porsche Turret")

I've got one of the non-zimmerit versions of the kit, with a view of doing the second prototype V2, which is now on display in bovington tank museum.

I'm fairly well versed withthe details i need to do, the late 18-tooth sprockets and redesigned tracks, monobloc barrell, fill in the armour cut out in front of the radio operator, and add the weld bead for what was the escape hatch originally located under the commanders cupola.

There is a couple of details i'm short on though, such as what the rear deck layout is like (photos would be helpful) and also what the rear exhaust pipe arrangement was like. i know there were a few variations of these, such as what became the standard tailpipes, and a wierd variant where there were large "chimneys" which directed the exhaust towards the sides.

Anyone shed any light on this???

The sprocket is the early 18 (small) tooth not the late only tracks are those "march 45", the exhaust should be tiger I style on prototypes IIRC. The rear deck is the same as on any other Tiger II but the big cover for the snorkelling device (also seen on Tigers II from FKL 316 and few other (parts can be found in Panther D Premium box). The weird variant with "chimneys" is a trial made in Sweden after the war. The"chimneys are nothing more than the exhausts with flame suppresors and hoods from a late panther G

I think when it comes to the sprocket i'll have to comprimise and use the late 18 tooth one, as i will be ordering a set of friulmodel tracks for it. And i think it would be mad to spend an extra £30 on a sprocket which would mean i'd have 1 set of tracks with no matching sprockets and 1 set with no matching tracks.

Glad to hear about the engine deck being the same as the FKL 316 tanks, as the other one i've got to the assembly stage is from that unit!

I'm still not sure what you mean about the exhausts though, i've never seen any rear end photos which really show their shape or fitment. Anyone got any pics of them or be willing to do a quick rough sketch to show what they look like??

Rear photo of Tiger Ausf.B (Fgst. Nr. V2) as found by the British in Haustenbeck, Germany - 1945.

1) Spare antenna case. Fitted this way to only this vehicle. Missing on Bovington display vehicle.
2) Modified pipes for testing exhaust pressure. Right side exhaust pipe is mirror image of left side exhaust pipe.
3) Oval shaped armor cover for coolant heating device not fitted to this vehicle.
4) Originally fitted with the double link Gg 24/800/300 cross-country tracks. Bovington display vehicle presently fitted with the single link Kgs 73/800/152 tracks.
Strangely V2 was not fitted with a jack or the fittings for the jack but did have a jack block.

Front view of Tiger Ausf.B (Fgst. Nr. V2) fitted with prototype side fenders, front mud flaps and standard issue tools and equipment but lacking any Zimmerit paste (anti-magnetic coating).

Side view of Tiger Ausf.B (Fgst. Nr. V2). Note the double link Gg 24/800/300 cross-country tracks and the fittings for the standard tools. The side fenders are missing the vertical support braces between each of the 5 fenders that are found on the production fenders. Depending on how accurate you want to build your example the front 18 toothed drive wheel lugs are offset and not centered to the spokes. You can easily see this on the photos of the drive wheels on the link that Pawel provided you with and those that Darren posted. The Fruilmodel part number for the Gg 24/800/300 cross-country tracks is ATL-41. This set comes with the correct 18 toothed front drive sprocket wheels for these tracks, however the center lugs are centered to the spokes. Presently this is a deficiency with all available kit and aftermarket drive sprocket wheels for the KT.

Here are a few links that you may or may not have already read through. The first link (page 2) has a photograph of the side exhaust stacks that you mention in your post. And the second link will provide you with plenty of information concerning the early Tiger II that may be of use to you.

Hope this helps. Would be nice to see you post your build so we can see what you've done or perhaps do a build log?

The side mounted exhaust on the Swedish TII is in fact a German modification.
This TII was one of the German trials vehicles

Hi all,

Thanks for all the responses. Just show's what a great community this is.

The model I've done of the FKL 316 King Tiger has:

Zimmerit.
Monobloc gun barrel.
Mudguards.
Sideskirts.
Deep wading "pot" on the rear deck.
Tiger 1 exhaust covers.
18 tooth sprockets.
Gg 24/800/300 Tracks (I really hated doing these!!!)

So my idea with V2 was to do:

Monobloc gun barrell.
No Mudguards.
No Sideskirts.
Deep wading "pot" on the rear deck.
18 tooth sprockets.
Zg 75/800/152 Tracks.
No tools on hull.
Different Exhaust Pipes.

So thats those plans out the window (cries)

I shall try remember to start a build log, i've been busy the last week so haven't started the kit yet, as i'd at least like to do the different exhausts properly.

Not to mention i still have to assemble my other kits:

Tiger 1 Initial production.
king Tiger Henschel design turret with zimmerit.
Panther 2.

Which reminds me, i'm currently looking for the following for my V2 project:

Porsche king tiger premium kit metal gun barrel, muzzle break, mantlet components.

and

Panther Ausf.D deep wading pot parts.

If anyone has these lying around and is willing to part with them, please contact me asap!!!!

Sean
