Looks like Dragon have unofficially announced a new Japanese tank in 1/35, to go with the unnamed new tool halftrack. This to go along with the destroyed tanks mentioned over at ML. Maybe this is why the US Marines at Peleliu is on hold.

While any Japanese armor is a good thing , not to mention another Allied or Axis half -track . How about thinking outside of the box and releasing a FT-17 ( built 1917 - used by Germans as late as mid 1944) or any WW2 French armor .

Thanks, Matt, I guess I should haunt ML more often.

Well, it certainly is cheaper than buying resin wrecks....

But it also feels a bit like shooting a deer from a blind....

Am I the only one that sees these wrecks as a waste of time and effort that could be put into other more beneficial areas?

I mean if we really want a wreck of a tank on a diorama, I doubt there are many among us that don't have tanks we built many years ago that just don't live up to what we are doing now, or we have a kit in our stash that we know is a dog of a kit and we will never build it as is.....why not take one of these derelict kits and create a wreck out of it.

I dunno...maybe I am missing something here.

Scott, creating a wrecked tank is really a tremendous challenge. You need a full interior, including the engine and transmission, the turret interior and the rotating mechanism. Many things that are hidden in a "normal" model are all there for the world to see. I have great respect for those modelers who can pull it off. I have an Academy Tiger with full interior I intend to "wreck" at some point, but haven't had the courage to attempt it.

I don't know that DML could put this effort to "better" use, but it seems like digital cameras to me: even an idiot can take a pretty competent photo these days. Buying a wreck in a box seems a bit like cheating somehow, LOL.

If your goal is to have deer for dinner, then a blind is a good idea.

If your goal is to be a great hunter, then...

Wow! I think it is a great idea. We need to push the borders a little bit. Prepainted PE was also "cheating" at one point. Now it is more accepted - although not by all

Hmm...
Could this be the unknown new-tooled Halftrack?

Kewl. I never got around to kit-bashing the Italeri version. Now we all have something to use those incorrect Trumpeter Sd.Ah.51 trailers on....

Aren't these at the risk of all looking the same when built? I do hope there is SOME VARIETY or options like being hit by an 88MM, hit by a 75MM or even an air attack.

Jeff, that's an excellent point, and I think DML would be smart to have the tank come apart in several ways. If you look at tank wrecks, there are some common denominators in how they explode (e.g., turret off).

Well Dragon relegated my Italeri RSO to the never get built pile at the back of the cupboard and now it seems they are going to do the same with all the Italeri/Revell Sd.Kfz 10's variants I've stashed away

Got to be a good seller for them and knowing how they rightly maximise their investment I'm sure we'll see all the variants in quick succession.

Well, Alan, sometimes I'd rather have an easy build than go through the headaches of kit-bashing. Those Italeri kits are a problem. QuickWheel will probably release a mask for the wheels, and there's plenty of AM PE for the gun, so it might be a good thing. But this is probs the time to dump those Italeri kits if you're gonna.

I'd be surprised if it's modular. If the modeler is good enough to make a wrecked tank, they can use this as a starting point. The rest will probably just be happy to have a good looking wreck without hours of scratchbuilding and mods. Similar to how many people use the same dragon or Alpine figures unmodified, if they look good in your diorama why be concerned that they might show up in someone else's?

I think this wouldd be a great idea, imagine an injection molded burnt out Panzer IV or the like!

Naah ... there's nothing wrong with the Italeri kits, they're just not too detailed. Besides, you won't get what you paid for them now. I have one built, one in a MISB in the stash, the Steyr truck on it's way and I gotta get the DML kit too.
