Does anyone know of a source for USAF vehicle decals? I have a 1/35 M706 with the correct turret and would like to do the Air Force security version. I need a source of white lettering. Also, I plan to do a covered M151 and need the white lettering as well. I checked Archer with no luck.
Thanks,
Mike

I had the same challenges in finding a way to print white MP decals for both a V-100 and M-8 Greyhound. I located a firm in Holland (Black Lion) who took my designs, measurements and reference photos, converted these to the appropriate decals, and shipped them to me in Los Angeles. Very, very reasonable price of under $20. US.

Thanks for the info, I really don't have any reference material to supply them. I was hoping for some off the shelf product. I have a son who is in the USAF Security Forces and was hoping to do some vehicles from a couple of eras, I have the kits but no lettering. Thankfully, USAF lettering is rather simple.

Hi Mike,
Try Policecarmodels.com. They do not have early stuff, but do have later emblems & badges that are suitable for cars & pickups in various scales, unfortunately no one does USAF stuff in 1/35 cause there isn't much call for it. I've gotten them in 1/32 & 1/48 and they have worked well on the models & diecasts I've done for myself. (retired Security Forces NCO).
I had a friend who was doing stuff for me like m75's guy in Holland, but he stopped making decals period, and I haven't been able to find anyone unless you want a hundred sets(?)
Policecar.com has been good to me over the years, give em a try

Jake

I just thought of Microscale decals, they offer sheets of various font/style letters in numerous colors. Good stuff. Good luck.

Jake,
Thanks, I'll check them again, I did look at them to do a more current Impala. Perhaps I could check the lettering and it might be close. I was noticing for the V100 I would just need the lettering "U.S. AIR FORCE" in white and numbers for the serial number. Probably just the same for the blue M151, perhaps yellow lettering? Not sure.

Hey,
I believe the lettering in Vietnam was yellow on blue vehicles, red on yellow vehicles or white on od vehicles, I wasn't SF then but I was at Plieku airstrip numerous times. I seem to remember when I left in early '67 the M151A1s were od and the civilian types were blue.

There is an organization for Security Forces that has a website that may have a history area with pics. But as you know in the AF all that counts has wings everything else is wasted money, so taking pics of SPs/SF guys is.......waaay down the list.

Another thought is dry transfers( woodland scenics DT507 gothic/white,DT512 smaller lettering, Archer: several sizes AR35107W white or AR35107B black),which can be done individually or apply them to decal paper (any decent hobby shop) and put them on like a regular decal. It really depends on how detailed you want to get.

BTW stay away from the guy on ebay doing SF stuff, I bought one and the decals fell off, when asked What the heck! I was told "things happen"

I must have used up all the decals I had as I had a run on those cars several years ago. Kinda of a long answer, but maybe it jogged some thoughts on ways to do it. Good luck!

Hi Guys,
If you need any sort of "custom" decal work, drop me a line at: [email protected] . I run a company called Decalcomaniacs! and I'll do pretty much anything people are willing to pay for. The best part is small runs (less than 10, more like 1) are my specialty. You will also find my prices very reasonable. Drop me a line and we'll talk.
Regards,
Georg Eyerman

Hi,
Home run again!! I've never seen these pics before. They are just what I was looking for,as they show the location of the markings on the 706 and in the background there is a Dodge( I believe) with yellow lettering on the blue paint to verify the earlier comment on markings/vehicle color.

BTW the 69L195 (?) breaks down as 69=year of purchase,L =class of vehicle(and I cannot remember what the letters mean), 195= the 195th vehicle purchased in that class. I stand to be corrected as this is from memory. Hope this helps Mike.

Thanks again Frenchy,
Jake

You're welcome Jake. Here's a picture of a similar (I think) pick-up truck. This unlucky one belonged to the 377th Air Police Squadron, at Tan Son Nhut. :

The markings appear to be yellow indeed, when compared to the Air Police marking on a white background....

Thanks to all for the info and particularly the pictures. They are a great help. At least I have a starting point. The V-100 seems pretty simple, the M151 I plan to do was a blue one with a white roof, I saw it and have a limited view picture of one which was at the Titan Museum in Arizona. In time I can do an Impala which operate on the bases and a Humvee shouldn't be too much trouble. You guys have been great with the help.

I believe the correct Airforce version was the M706E2
This link will take you to my AF project. I used the Hobbyboss V100/M706 to convert to the airforce version
I too have been looing for awhile for the correct decals

Let me know if you want to get some decals from Georg we could go in together so he wouldnt have to make up two seperate sheets for such a simple decal and I may have some resource photos we could use.

Hi,
As far as the numbering goes I spoke with a bud that used them in Vietnam in the AF and he remembers them as POS or other not so nice things as they rode like a ' bucking bronco' offroad. He is looking for pics(fingers crossed).

As far as the decals go, all I'm really interested in is the US ARMY/ AIR FORCE and some serial # that are reasonably accurate. I would think that Georg could/would put both types on one sheet with maybe 4 vehicles of each service in white and black. Does this meet your needs? And yes I will go in with you on the money.

If you have other requirements I don't have problem with that. I have the Echelon set Part 5 (are there 4 other parts?) which are ok but have no serial #s either.

I went back and reviewed your build and it's great. I agree they could have been waaay more accurate, but it's the best game in town. I have the Hobby-Fan V-150 ,all the Verlinden versions and one from England from the '80s and for the money, well......

Please advise on the plan,I can PM a cell # if you like.
