Jim, I think the people this post is aimed at are not understanding it is aimed at them, or they are missing the point. No one wants to come out and say anything for fear of sounding like the guys at Missing Lynx or something. How do you guys feel that an appropriate, yet civil enough way, to deal with this situation would happen? I know I don't want to say anything, but is it always Jim's job to bring it up to those responsible? This is Jim's site, but in a larger sense it is my site too, and yours. This site is definitely a Gestalt because it is more than the sum of it's parts. We all contribute to it, good or bad. Does that mean we all have the responsibility to handle these situations. I feel we are difinitely suffering the concerns all clubs feel as they grow, the problems of maintaining the homely feel of the group, while still catering to the needs of the whole group. What do you guys think of this?

In the past, maybe twice that I can remember, when I thought someone was doing something out of school I sent them a polite PM. But that is a valid point. I mean, who am I to people how to act here? This isn't my site. I am a guest. I was really torn whether to send the PMs or not. Everything worked out fine but I felt like I was over stepping my (non-existant) authority.

Thoughts anyone?

Shaun, or anyone else for that matter, if you happen to come across a post that is "off-color", and you do not want to PM the individual yourselves, please feel free to PM any of the site's moderators about the post in question. Any of us will be happy to send a polite PM to the poster reguarding their post(habits).
I try my best to read through all the posts I can in several sittings each day. I can and do miss some from time to time.

I try to be very tactful when telling someone they may be breaching some type of "netiquette". Usually by answering their question and adding a "BTW" or P.S." then stating what written or unwritten rule they may have broken.

I think it is a better idea to notify a moderator than to just publically berate someone. One thing I hate about M-L is that everyone and their brother will tell someone to:
"Please include your full name and e-mail address or your post will be deleted n/t." But normally will not include anything to answer the post. Or worse yet, just deleting the topic and all subsequent replies, even if those obey the rules. I'd really hate for us to become as draconic as this.

That's the beauty of PMs... you don't have to a announce it to the whole world, if you think your advice may embarass someone... :-)

All the best

I myself love the rank system. I think it is a way of tracking a persons input (even though some input is BS0 but I sometimes use it to help me see whose input is experience and not just hot air. I know that sounds stupid because of bull posts but some of our best modelers are high in rank and we know who they are.
