Hi all
Although my stash is full up, last week at my hobby shop i found and bought on special offer this Kit:
http://www.mhobby.it/images/35036.jpg
Anybody has already build it?
Is it an accurate kit or not?
Does it have some huge issues?
Have I to be careful in some particular construction phases?
Thanks in advance for any help, links or tips.
Cheers

Hi Mauro,
I built this kit when it came out and it's a gem. However, you might want to pay some extra attention to a few things. The suspension arms are very brittle, and the plastic is generally pretty fragile. Make sure to cut the parts with extra care, especially on the tracks. As far as accuracy, you may want to replace the screens with some photoetch, but aside from that I didn't notice anything too out of place.
Basically, just take your time and the kit does the rest of the work. Have fun!

Canīt remember the details just now, but the swing arms do not have locators or are located wrong. You have to build a jig so it sits at the right height, and then fix the swing arms. S.Zaloga did a build article on this in Military Modelling when it was released. Canīt remember the height of the jig just now ... maybe somebody has more details?

Unfortunately none of the details an what he did are included in the net version.
Further searching has found the actual article on Military modelling.

I think between these two articles ... youīre good to go!

Thanks a lot Kilye
At first glance it seemed to me too that the plastic was a litle bit brittle, but I've noticed also the "gorgeous" crisp Details...
Probably It'll be a long long therm project.
I'm a very slow modeller

Hi Mauro,
I built this kit as soon as I could obtain it. The parts are very fragile but with care the kit goes together well.
As Frank has said please read the articles especially the PMMS one ( the bit about the upper hull sides will save you time and putty!).
The older Alan, Dragon...kit is not as good, this kit I love and I have another one in the stash waiting to start.

Keith
I'll follow your kindly tips
I think I Understand the reason why you have two Su 76 M kit in your stash...
This self propelled gun has a rather ugly shape...but in my opinion is also "fascinating" ...It seems like a huge bad russian monster....
Tony
Thanks for the info
If it isn't strictly necessary i won't get extra set for this kit, but I don't know yet...
What about a good walkaround on line of this tank?
A big thanks to all of you!
Cheers

Heres some images of the old AER/Maquette kit. Some of the thickest plastic Ive ever seen in a kit. Some panels were almost 8mm thick?? So whatever work you have to do in this kit, its nothing compared to the other piece of scrap. Dragon have also released this.

The kit is very nice, but it's also very difficult to build, and requires some thought in assembly. The gun assembly is particularly challenging.
Check out the Zaloga article, it'll be an enormous help, but bear in mind even the Big Man himself pooched the gun and had to replace it with the Italeri Zis-3.
My advice is to use an RB barrel, not only because it's gorgeous but splitting the gun into two assemblies makes painting and weathering so much easier.
The grilles are problematic because the plastic is so thick on these parts and cutting them out would be a real pain. Otherwise the kit is fiddly to build but very accurate, just like its T-70 brother.

Hi all. I'm sorry for the delay in my reply
Kevin
Yesterday evening I 've seen again the sprues of the kit
Unfortunatly I agree with you. I wanted to save some money, but i' ve noticed that the gun is splitted in two halves. I think eventually I ll' use an alluminum barrel
Frank
Very very nice work !. Did you do also a diorama ?
