Howdy all,
I've really gotten into Modern armour lately (must be the whole Desert Storm/Iraqi Freedom 'thing').
My latest project is the new Tamiya Soviet T-55 kit. I've also purchased the new Verlinden 'Iraqi T-55 Add On Armor' kit #1944. It's the one with the sharply angled supplementary turret armour and agressively extended counterweight, plus sponson & glacis applique.
As soon as I saw it, I had to have it. Very unique looking.
Anyway, I was hoping for some help in regards to reference sources for build-up pics and such. Walk-arounds would be great, but I'm not counting on getting that lucky!
I've been able to find standard T-55 stuff, was just needing model/variant specific stuff.
If any of you have built this variant, or know of any sources/links that could help, I'd be very appreciative......thx.
Regards,
Tread.
P.S. Actually, If you know of any info sources for T-55 variant photos I could use them. I plan to do a few different versions of the bloody thing!

Hey Tread!
Haven't built mine yet, so no comment on fit etc., but here's a walkaround of the one at APG.

Does that mean you have one of these conversions too? If so, please keep me aprised of your progress when you start it, O.K.?

O.K. all,
Since there wasn't a stampede of response's from the gallery (although Olaf 'piped' up ) I decided to look a bit deeper into this on my own. I discovered that the unoffical name for this particular variant of the 'do-all' T-55 (this tank has GOT to rival the ever faithful M-113 with it's diversity of usage, and it's variant examples) is apparently the 'Enigma'.
Using that, and adding it to my search parameters, I was able to uncover several great sources of not only the Enigma variant, but many other T-55's as well!
Many thx to anyone who tried to find anything for me.
Regards,
Tread.

well, I have the conversion, I have not built it, but have started it somewhat.
Be warned, there are some fit problems with the pieces...it has been stated to be innaccurate (like I care) and the kit was originally designed for the Esci kit, not the Tamiya kit, so there may be extra problems trying to fit the kit to the Tamiya T-55.
Wish I could offer some good news...

Howdy case!
Many thx to you for responding sir! Not only is your provided link to the Enigma very helpful, but I perused your site while there and I must say I like it! I'll be surfing your way many more times in the future.
Thx again,
Tread.
For the record, your 'Enigma' link pics helped me solve a question that's been buging me!

well, I have the conversion, I have not built it, but have started it somewhat.
I have also just recently purchased the Verlinden conversion (#1944) and have been working with it for the past week or so (just fiddling with the pieces and trying to 'accurize' the additions).
Be warned, there are some fit problems with the pieces...[/]
Nothing that can't be worked around.
[i]it has been stated to be innaccurate
It is inaccurate ( unusual for Verlnden), but only minimally. Have already addressed most of that.
(like I care)
.....unfortunately, I do.

there are.

You have, your input was dandy, and pretty much spot-on!
Some of the 'details' I still need some help on are; The single piece of applique armour that is immediately to the left of the barrel (from the TC's view) is spring mounted, and raises up for some reason that my mind cannot 'wrap-around'. Still trying to figure that one out.
Also, I cannot determine if the piece's left and right of the added glacis armour, and just to the rear of the front fenders is also armour or just sheet metal (they are part of the PE shet in the conversion kit).
But I'll figure it out.........
Tread.
