My friends,

I need your help.
Over the weekend I started assembling a MAZ KTKZ-537L.
The main groups (cargo compartment, fuel tanks, chassis, cab and winch compartment) are already defined.

I intend to start detailing the groups and then to unite all the chassis. For reference I am using some images from the site PRIMEPORTAL, and a publication of Tankograd.
Unfortunately these my two sources do not detail the engine compartment, my idea is to try to fill the engine compartment, with a set built in SCRATCH, I already have the dimensions of the D12A-525 engine, fitted to the truck.
Do any of you could tell me where I find pictures, drawings or anything that could lead me in the construction of the engine compartment and interior. Another option would be to make the radiators to try to shrink the gap.

Can not stand this emptiness, agree.

Thanks to all who somehow can help me...
Jacques

1. I know the shroud over the fuel cells is "missing" as per previous models fo the MAZ-537, but is there a PE piece in the Trumpeter kit to fit across the large opening? If not, that is a BIG goof by Trumpeter in this kit...that is a indeed a HUGE hole, and not a problem in the earlier tank transporter versions I have.

2. Tankograd publishing on the MAZ-537 has several shots of the engine compartment.

3. Zachary Sex, IIRC, also did a engine compartment build on his that you can reference. I am not sure what publication it was as I do not have it on hand at them moment.

Using a engine setup from one of Trumpeter's Chinese Type 89 MLRS, Type 83 Howitzer, or type 89 120mm anti tank gun, and all you will really need to scratchbuild is the cooling fan assembly and some piping...for the most part.

Good luck and share any info and pictures. I am sure there are a lot of other interested builders.

Jacques,

Yes, we have a PE in the kit to put in the opening, the Trumpeter, placed in the kit. See the pictures that this EP does not solve the problem.

I will try to create an illusion that something is in the engine compartment, put the results here, nothing super detailing, more something to fill the void.

Thanks,

Mano

My friends,

I have no words to thank the assistance they are giving me.
I was thinking about doing a single mount, I'm going in another direction.
I hope one day I can repay this attention they are giving me.

JIM - Thanks for the drawings on view.

MAURO - Thanks again. I'm answering your PM.

ZACK - I was looking for references to your assembly, I am glad to have appeared to help me, I'll send you e-mail, by PM. Thanks.

Again thank you all ..

The photos above are of a MAZ-537G not KZKT(MAZ)-537L. The photos above show D-12 engine of MAZ-537G, the L version which is a ballast tractor has Yamz-240 engine.

Even though majortiy of L version vehicles that i've seen photos off are of a later MAZ type and have the shorter engine shroud, according to the photo below, if you get a longer engine shroud you can build what seems to be an early L version.

Something you may want to consider is using a 1/24 car engine. The larger scale will make it appear more "beefy". Muscle car engines about or you could go with a cadilac engine.

Yes, you're right, KZKT has a different engine

Comparing this photo to the MAZ-537G, the engine compartment looks very similar. Maybe not all 537L had YAMZ-240? If you are not going for 100% accuracy you could buy a resin T-34 1/35 engine (D-12 is based on the T-34's V-2 engine), put it into the MAZ and scratch build the other structures around it in the engine compartment.
