Hi Ciro

I've also noticed that sometimes it's mounted in a defferent position

Sorry, its not for the MG...... its an IR lens for the driver. It mounts into a circular cut out right besides the periscopes. It is indeed mounted in many different locations.

Thanks Chris. So I think that tube needs to put the lens in the circular cut....

Am I wrong?

Cheers, thanks again

Yes. I have the technical drawing in one of my russian books. I think its the T54/55 part 2 one. I got them years ago from RussianMotorbooks.com but for the life of me I can't find them anymore.

Anyway about the case it opens up on the hinge and the lens is inside. There is a power lead that is attached (I think?). Im sure theres somone that knows more. I used to think it was for the MG too

Hi All,
What's with the wing nut on the center of the cover. Implies that there is a through bolt. Would there be an opening in the center of the lens? It would keep the lens from bouncing around in the box. Anybody got a picture or drawing of this lens? Never noticed this before.
thanks,
James

Chris is partially right, it's basically an empty tray that holds the drivers I.R. periscope so he can use it without being buttoned up. No lenses inside, only two clamping bolts.

Yes. Soviet tank crews liked a lot smoking Cuban cigars. They always brought cigars during theirs trials or in battle

Mauro,
thanks for finding this page and adding the link to it. The next question to answer is why the mounting tube of this bracket is at an angle on the tank in the photo you first posted!
