Someone know if the bmd-1p fought in Afganistan during the soviet-afganistan conflict in the 70-80? bmd -1p was an armored vehicle for paratroopers, probably spetsnaz.

According to Concord's Armor of the Afghanistan War, The VDV employed the BMD early in the war, but replaced them with regular army BMP-2's and BTR-70's due to the BMD's being too small and cramped for extended field ops.

Curiously I can recall the very first image I saw of the soviet intervention on Afghanistan: it was a BMD belonging to a paratroopers unit, coming out of an Antonov, on the day soviets arrived to Cabul.

Sorry, i don't know about afghanistan, but I know the russian army employed plenty of BMD's in Chechnya.

do you know if the bmd 1p it's used in Chechnya?

I'll try to check tonight the magazine I have : "RAID" special number, about the war in Chechnya. I remember there were many pics of BMD's but I can't be more precise right now...

I checked my mag last night (I've got problems with my connection so I can't post picutres right now).
There are a few pictures of BMD's. I can't say if they are BMD1 or BMD2... the magazine says that both types were there but sometimes they can be wrong so...
There is no info at all about units... it only says paratroops...

thanks however, I started with the idea to do an afganistan diorama ,but now I changed idea and I want rappresent my bmd 1p in Chechnya...
