Hi there, sherman experts!
Being a axis modeller for decades, I have one question since I am about to build my first allied tank.
I got one Academy M4A2 Marine Corps as a gift, and my intention is to convert it in order to depict a British Sherman III, perhaps in Italy.
I know there will be a lot of conversions and/or scratchbuilt ahead, but my main question is:
Are the tracks supplied with the kit (Academy M4A2 Sherman – US Marines (#13203 ) ) right for a British Sherman III?
Or should I replaced them? If so, I do not want to buy some AM stuff, so, is there a way to addapt them?
Thank a zillion times in advance.
Cheers,
Pablo

I have that kit, and if I'm not mistaken, it comes with the T48 w/ EEC. The three bar cleat (T49?) or T51 rubber block would be more appropriate for a Sherman III in Commonwealth service. AFV Club makes a very nice set of the three bar cleat tracks, one piece glue-able, for under ten bucks, that snug down nicely.

Hope this helps.

Unless you are going to convert the hull back to a small hatch version this is the wrong kit to do a Sherman III. The British did not use large hatch M4A2 Shermans. You could do it Russian.

Really? guess I will have to check my reference once again...
Found this on: www.usarmymodels.com
"M4A2
Variations in frontal armor, weaponry (75mm and 76mm), dry (appliqué) or wet stowage (no appliqué). Twin diesel engine. Used mostly by Commonwealth allies and Soviets; some U.S.M.C. usage.
Later ones (including all T23 76mm turreted ones) had the later 47-degree hull and large hatches. DML have three 75mm versions.
Tasca has kitted the direct vision Sherman III. DML and Academy have late M4A2 available."
Maybe it could be used to depict one of those "later ones".
What do you think?
Cheers, mate.
