Salut Sampiero

According to a top view drawing in the old Squadron's " M48 Patton in Action" book, there seems to be 5 vision blocks on the M247 turret top (around the hatch) : 2 facing front, 2 facing right and one facing left...

Looks like the drawing I'm talking about is not that accurate...

Damn youre a day late!!! I was at the AAF Tank Museum yesterday and they have one there (along with a TON of other stuff). I dont know that I would have been much help since they don't allow flash photography

sampiero

Hello modelers
TAHNK Frenchy and Sabot THANKS for the links. This confirms that the plan tamiya is false and that of Eduard is correct for the bishops, this one makes it clear periscopes 4 and not 5!
I'll be able to finalize my turret.
THANK Chefchris for the process, I asked them several questions about this car but for now they said they lacked the elements?? I asked them to take a picture but I have not had answers.
I would put pictures to show you my setup
see you soon

Looks good so far. Looking forward to the next progress photos. You're a brave man taking on this project.
Sorta off topic but I've always wondered why Tamiya decided to produce this kit. M247 Sgt. York was a joke that was loaded with technical problems, controversies, and accusations of corruption. I just read this on wikipedia.com and laughed for a while:

"In February 1982 the (Sgt. York) prototype was demonstrated for a group of US and British officers at Fort Bliss, along with members of Congress and other VIPs. When the computer was activated, it immediately started aiming the guns at the review stands, causing several minor injuries as members of the group jumped for cover."
At one point, its targeting system locked on a bathroom fan! Only about 50 vehicles were produced and cancelled soon after. Maybe Tamiya thought that it would be comical to produce piece of crap? Any ideas? I've read that the kit is a piece of junk, too- based on some wooden mock-up.

bonsoir James

good evening james
I love to make original models, wich are not often seen.
I think tamiya released this car just because it was unusual! tamiya has not only the version with the changes in the engine compartment, they are happy to be a case of M48 basic.
When the turret: they made it very simple with the errors, of course!
I continued through the ejector sleeves (one per barrel)

most dramatic in this story is that the academy has taken over mold,

hello
we move to the next step, as you can see it is to catch the error of tamiya. they made the covers not thick (right side) but down (left side)

the shielded receives a very fine gray primer, used in car body.

Until it dries, it proceeds to mount Track M48A5 / M60A3 home Bronco, type "link by link" is very realistic, the only downside is the installation. It is fragile and we must be careful not to lose (hopefully bronco has provided sufficient)

the beginning

the work of aging and dirt will come later

Bertucci,

I wish I'd seen this build earlier, but it looks like you've done the SGT York justice. We've got one here in the collection and I'm contemplating doing the same 'accurization' project. I spent half an hour sitting in the turret the other day. Now I'm trying to decide whether I want to scratchbuild the control panels in the open position to show the gun breeches or not....

Great job!

thank you jon
you're lucky to be back inside, the hardest thing was to have beautiful, detailed photos of the turret but thanks to the members I could modify it.
even the museum was unable to take pictures! I intended to open the covers without documentation or picture I gave up ...
I think putting the power of the guns with the covers open is a good idea .... must go! courage.
I'm interested if you have documentation to make another more detailed model
see you soon

My plan was to shoot a full walkaround of the York this week. I've been out of the office, however, and haven't had a chance to. Possibly tomorrow, but if not, I should be able to do it next Friday.
