Jan,

Your huge vehicle that can't make up its mind weather its 1/50 scale of 1/72nd scale is looking real sweet. Those red and white decals and the painted rear lights and globe look super. And as weathering_one mentioned, adds to the build.

@Eddy - It's always a pleasure to have you drop by and thanks for looking and the comments, Eddy. I see that there is the big brother (1/35) version of one of these here in the AFV section. From looking at it and then mine it seems there aren't too many differences. Revell must be commended for doing a great job on this 1/72 scale representation.

Cheers,
Jan

I've been more than a bit busy with the BB Campaign and trying to get a few builds ready for a local show. I fear that I haven't been doing my normal viewing and commenting in this great forum as much as I would have liked.

Anyway, I am now considering the Panzerhaubitze 2000 99.XX % finished. I have kept the weathering and such lighter as I have seen in the scores of images of the vehicle that I have looked at. Its quite a unique piece and perhaps the most interesting looking in my modest collection. If I can find another one I might like to try one of those in service in Afghanistan.

First picture is an experiment with the camera in 100% manual mode. I took several but this one was the best.

Now for shots using my normal aperture priority with remote flashes.

Questions and comments always welcome.

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan

the finished pics are great - they show this model off to great advantage.

I like the overall colouration in the first pic best, where maybe the shot was taken with 'flash off', though the other shots show the detail and camo paint job to great effect

cheers
Neil

You did a fantastic job on the finishing of this big beast. I particularly am impressed by the subtle colour variations with details such as the louvers. The effect of the dusty look on even small areas at the top of doors and hatches is super. Just wondering, should the glass on the periscopes and sights have a bit more reflectance to them? The pictures are also very good.

Regards,
AJ

I must apologize for not responding sooner but various things have kept me distracted.

Thanks Neil and I believe that the total manual shot would be more appropriate for older subjects and in black and white, such as ones that you have done. Perhaps when I complete a Second World War subject I'll use that technique. Just wish that I was better at making bases as it would probably enhance the overall effect.

AJ, thanks for your comments but while I had thought of improving the gloss of the periscopes I don't believe that it would have enhanced the overall effect. From looking at pictures of these vehicles in the field the glass always seems to be dusty and dull, even on cleaner vehicles. However, the lights in most pictures seem to always have more of a shine or glint to them.

Jan

That thing is so much huger in 1/35 scale, but I'd imagine that the build wouldn't be so much different from 1/72. I strongly recommend that you try the 1/35 offering.

Jasper, thanks for looking and commenting but I really don't understand your point. I reviewed the Revell 1/72 kit and built the same. This thread was meant to show what can be achieved when the kit is "totally" finished. From my research, the smaller scale version is very close to the larger scale brother. It may be smaller, use less paint and resources, cost less and take up less room but, it's still a great representation of a PzH-2000.
