Best complementary color to shade dark yellow would probably be brown and to highlight it you can use beige or even white.

Neat figure - really impressive climbing irons on the belt. It reminds me of my father, who was a rock-climber in his youth :-)
As for colours, you might try adding tan for the shadows with highlights in a mix of white/desert yellow.
