That's a great little build and the kit is still good after all these years - the older Tamiya jeep from the 70's was way of scale length. I have built this one up, slightly modified as a French version. The only thing I would be concerned about is this paricular version was used in NW Europe, no Africa. But it sure looks good!

The Italeri kit is suitable for 1944 in Europe, not North Africa in 1942 (the special fuel tanks and bullet proof glass were later additions). Just repaint it Olive Drab and continue with your build (probably British SCC-15 Olive Drab, which is slightly greener than the US No. 9 shade). Dragon offered a set of late SAS figures, which would go well with this kit.

This (the Italery kit) is my 10 year old son's first build...with some guidance. He wanted to convert it to a North African SAS unit, so we're heading down that path.

I had never built out an Italery kit, being from the Tamiya and Mongoram old school world and am impressed with the fit. I wasn't sure what to expect.

He's coming along slow...a little rough with his putty fills, but he's enjoying it...and I told him we can weather to cover the flaws...I'll try to get some pics up at where he's at with it now.

Here's where he's at right now..the rear gun mount broke in two, so he created a replacement...

I suggested trying the weathering on the chassis frame/transmission section before attachment to the body.

Why don't you put your son's build in a new post? After all, his work should have it's own "home" and plus we don't want to hijack Nelson's thread either...

Sorry. It never crossed my mind that the posts were hijacking the thread.

No big deal whatsoever and no offence meant... And, Maybe "hijacking" is a bit too strong of a word...

But IMHO it's always best to start a new thread when posting one's work via photos.
