So I'm looking to start my Dragon 1/35 Late Tiger 3 in 1 soon, and I have been researching the zimmerit as the model has none on it. While I am not opposed to doing the job myself, I prefer the look of it without the zimmerit. However, I would like to be historically accurate. On wikipedia they have a picture of a tiger that immobilized itself

in Febuary of 1945, with no Zimmerit. Now I'm having trouble identifying whether it is early or late production, and if that explains the lack of zimmerit? Any ideas on this? Would it be wrong to model a late Tiger without zimmerit?

That's Tiger 201, it has many photos, and it has Zimmerit.

well, I think that the tiger in the pic is a late and has the Zimmerit coating, but due to the quality of the pic or its angel or the light it's not visible.

Hi Jacob! As David and Jamal have stated this later... Re-manufactured Late Tiger 1, does have a full coating of Zimmerit, being of the finer hull type ridged pattern. Although this has been removed from the mantlet, possibly at the time when the 'rain guards' protecting the gun sight and coaxial MG were welded upon the mantlet. This puzzling Tiger also has a few more interesting modifications, a 'debris guard' (similar to the later Panthers) covering the gap between the mantlets rear and the turrets roof's leading edge. It also has stock steel strip holders affixed to the left rear of the turret and the stowage bin! And it is also a Befehlswagen... Well the Hull at least.
Still my favourite Tiger! Good luck with the build...
Cheers Phil.

Thanks for the ID. I see it now. very interesting on the rain gaurd, what purpose did that serve? I guess looking at the photos I had assumed that was just debris, but on a closer examination, you are right, it is attached. That zimmerit is so fine, I wonder how I would even manage to get that small. I read the large post they had earlier about zimmerit on tigers, but that will be a challenge.
