Hey guys, I was curious if anyone knew what the deal was with the Revell 1/35 MAN 10t 8x8 truck kits...They seem to be REALLY rare - as in, I can't even find one of them for sale in the US. On Ebay - No luck...
Ideas? I need two of them..
I have found the 6x6 kits, and I have one out of two that I need.
Thanks guys!

I think the 8X8 has been out of production for awhile, which is why you might have a hard time finding them. Usually still show up on Ebay though so that is weird.
None of my suppliers have them at least.

The Revell website doesn't show the 8x8 (the 6x6 is there though) so it out of production would be the correct assumption.
It will presumably turn up again one of these days.
Have you checked here ??

Well, looks like they might have it, but overseas shipping is going to be bad..
Oh well, thanks for the link anyway.
Anyone know why the kit went OOP but the 6x6 is still out?

Revell has an unusual habit of producing a just certain number of kits and then stops making them for a number of years. Several years later they re-pop the kit once again in limited numbers. Unlike Dragon or Tamiya where the same kits remain in the inventory year after year, Revell tends to rotate their stock every couple of years.
If you wait or check the secondary market, the kits pop up once again.

Actually not so unusual as that is how many model manufacturers work including Dragon and Tamiya.
Tamiya's T-55 was out of production for the better part of 2yrs and only recently has come back out.
Most companies when they make a kit try and predict how many they are going to sell in say 5yrs, and pump out that many kits. If that "stash" runs out before the 5yrs (or whatever the time period is) then the kit is in effect OOP, until they fire the molds back into the machines to inject more.
Some companies are better at predicting than others, some do a one time run on stuff (CH White Boxings), some companies will only do a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th run) on the kit if they know they will make their investment back because of high demand for the kit, good example is the M877 HEMTT truck from Italer.
Revell Germany is no different as the MAN 8X8 has been in and out of production since it first came on to the market, same with the MAN 6X6 and MAN 4X4. The MAN 6X6 recently has been re-released, I would suspect that the 8X8 will be again a year or 2 down the line.

Have you checked/asked what the shipping would cost? It is different from/to different countries. Recently I paid less to have a really big box shipped from
France to Sweden than I paid a year earlier for a single model within Sweden so there can be surprises. It's worth asking anyway ...

More than 5 pcs available!
If you want to make a fine model, also purchase the MR wheel set, next to the Eduard etch set.
I did the same with the, as rare as the 8x8, 4x4 MAN from Revell. If not, you may have a model with weal details and quite some missing details. Furthermore, the crane is subject to many discussions, since it does not even look like the original from a distance.

How much would this rare kit be worth nowadays?
I have one (and some resin wheels to go with it) that I might want to part with...
Thanks for your replies!
Cheers,
Christophe
