OK....I just got done "Trying" to airbrush Future.......is there anything I can use to thin this stuff down so that I don't have to shoot it at 60lbs of air?

I tried alcohol....and it didn't seem to mix right....so I used some warm water....and it mixed ok...but seemed to come out very watery....well duh I thinned it with water.....but still had to shoot it at 50lbs plus of air pressure.

I was just putting a gloss coat on a model rocket for decals, and then to smooth out the finish so that when I launch it...it glides through the air a little better....so no real big deal on how well the finish is...as its most likely going to get banged and scuffed up anyway.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!

How thick and viscous is your stuff? My bottle of Future has been on the shelf for well over two years and is still the consistency of water. I usually have no problem shooting it with 15-20lbs, even with my finest needle.

Well its been around for probably 5 years......no quite the consistancy of water....

I was using it in a Badger 350...(as I refuse to put it through my new 200) and it would only suck it to the top of the pick up tube in the jar and that was at 50lbs....added some water...and it was still only spraying intermittingly. Now I know how valuable those gravity feed cups are!!!

Hi Scott

I've got an equally old bottle of Klear (UK name for Future), and it's still as thin as ever... :-)

You can thin it with isopropyl alchohol, but I'm not sure I'd bother... if the consistency has altered that much, it might be safer to buy a new bottle for your models - and donate the old stuff to the kitchen floor. :-)

All the best

I've used Future/Klear just straight out of the bottle at a pressure 1.5/2 bar. Never had a problem.

Interesting, On the Blue Angel F-18 I finished recently, I sprayed it. It beaded up, then I wiped it off with a paper towel. Let that Dry then, brush painted it on. It turned out great!
