I wonder if anyone has any reference on a Panzer IV in allied service? I have Tamiyas Panzer IV Ausf.H (35209) lying around and thought about making something different with it.
Any help is appriciated.

yes they did I have a picture of a pz 3 leading a group of stugs in captured service
to the front the picture is in the book called kursk,
not forgetting that the russians also
resigned captured stugs by changing the upper hull to a bigger turret to take
a 76 mm gun from the t-34 so it's possiable for the pz4 to be in russian service there is a web-site called the russian battle field which I'm sure has pictures of captured weapons in russain service
cheers

How about something completely different? I understand Pz IVs were used by some Arab nations, (Syria?), against Israel as late as the early to mid sixties.

Hi. Picked up a book here awhile back called "Into the Reich" that shows a picture of a Panzer IV on page 90 being driven down the road with an American soldier in the turret. It says that captured tanks had the turret traversed to the rear to keep American tankers from firing on it. But it doesn't say if it was used for any kind of service or not.
Usually captured tanks were not used in front line service as there was too much danger of them being hit by their own people, as the gunners went by a vehicle's silhouette as opposed to the markings. Have seen several photos of the Germans using captured vehicles, but this was mainly in the rear areas or anti-partisan work.
I would imagine that if they found one running, the Allies would use it to pull out stuck vehicles, if there was no other vehicle around to be used, and also drive it to the rear areas for further evaluation by the intelligence services.
Take care, sgirty

The Syrians definitely used Pz IV's. The example at the American Armor Museum www.aaftankmuseum.com " TARGET="_blank"> www.aaftankmuseum.com , that used to be on Long Island and is now in Virginia is one such example. It still carries the shurtzen on the turret and has been repainted to dunkelgrau, (but certainly not a correct and very amateurish interpretation of that color ). There are reference pictures showing this type in dark green with Arabic writing on the shurtzen in several of my references.

LMAO, good one, Al.
By the way, the Syrian Pz IV also have the copula refitted to carry the russian AA machine gun, which in my opinion is also very amateurish, (Geez, Amateurish is a hard word to say! )
