Greetings,
I know a number of people use Mr. Surfacer as a gap filler but for the life of me I can't get it to work. In particular small seams on little parts but the same issue on bigger parts as well.
I apply the Surfacer sparingly on the seam then go over it with a brush dipped in alcohol or laquer thinner. I make certain that the brush is just moist with what ever thinner I am using. It seems like the surfacer always shrinks to the extety that the seam never goes away even after repeated applications. I also tried to vary the direction that I use the brush. Perpendicular or with the seam has the same result. Stubborn seam remains. Anyone have any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong? I know some modelers swear by it but I can't get it to work for me.
Thanks,
Cbreeze

Hi Cbreeze
Have you already read this?:
http://www.swannysmodels.com/Surfacer.html
I don't know. Probably you should wait a litte bit more befere smoothing the putty with thinner
The putty after few minutes, seems dry but is just an impression because it makes a matt thin film over its surface. If you touch it when it hasn't cured yet you make a big mess...
I usually wait at least a quarter of an hour before smoothing
Sometimes, especially whit small gaps, with tamiya lacquer thinner
i thin it a bit before putting it on the model
I hope this is useful for you
cheers

Yes, you are supposed to wait 20-25 minutes or even longer for the Surfacer to cure. However after that you can clean up just like you have said.
