Getting a Matilda and an M3 Honey for Christmas. Both will be in Caunter scheme so I'm looking for the right colour paints.

Done lots of research and nailed the colours down almost - quite a bit different then the colourful Tamiya suggestions.

The only uncertainty is whether the base colour should be Light Stone or Portland Stone.

Despite the name, Light Stone is quite a bit darker and more orange than Portland .

Both are regular mentioned in Caunter schemes.

Just wondering whether it was a question os whatever was available, or different campaigns or different years.

Any experts out there who could advise Portland Stone or Light Stone.

Cheers,

Nigel

Not an expert but the color you are after IS Portland Stone: (BS 64)

Tamiya Colors:

6 parts XF2, 1 Part XF1 & 1 Part XF57

Also not an expert but If you are looking to a good set of paint colours for your scheme and if you dont mind straying from Tamiya. You could have a look at the LifeColor Middle East British Tank Set. You can see them at airbrushes.com

Good luck with what ever you choose.

Thanks for the tip.

On first take these sets look very interesting.

My second take was, bit pricey and there are colours in the set I wouldn't use.

My third take was that you can buy the paints seperately.

And my final take was that it is cheaper to buy them individually:-

6 x £2.30 = £13.80

wheras a fixed set of 6 is £15.59 ..... weird!

Will ceratinly be looking at them though.

Cheers,

Nigel

The matches are not that good actually. There has been some disquiet over some of the shades...

Now, if you were using enamels, there are some brilliantly matched shades...

No problems with enamels - in fact I find them easier than acrylics.

Which did you have in mind.

Xtracolor do a set but they use Light Stone rather than Portland Stone.

WEM do some but are out of stock of both Light and Portland Stone.

That's a REAL bummer. These were put together (as far as I recall) by Mike Starmer as an advisor. They really are THE best on the market...
