Started this one a couple of weeks ago and it has been VERY slow going.

My idea was to use pieces from the Trumpy Ti-67 kit (very crappy) and the Tamiya T-62 kit (pretty great) to make this legend.

The Trumpeter kit is pretty old and dated and not very accurate at all, but I have been able to use some of the pieces of it such as the headlights and mineroller attachments. Everything else I have had to scratch so far and it is really been fun.

BTW much thanks to Michael Mass for the photos and the book (Verlinden WarMachines No. 10) and to BLACKWATER for his excellent build of a Tiran 6 which has been great for reference photos so far.

More to come.

This is very nice Shane.

You seems to be good in paying attention to the small details.
I like the rear stowage hamock in the hull.

Please note that there is a small conversion to be made in the pivoting shaft of the driver's hatch.. It should be the same as on the Tiran 5.

Very nice work! I have been toying around with the same idea snce I have a couple of Trumpeter Ti-67's laying around. The Trumpeter kits may not be the best out there, but they aren't exactly the worst either. Once I get a few of my other OOB builds done and work up the nerve for such a kit bash, I'll give it a shot.

I was wondering if anyone has any images of the Tiran 6 in action...

I have lots of reference photos of the vehicle(s) at Latrun and the Verlinden WarMachines No.10, but I would really like a picture or two of the Tiran in the sand so to speak to get a general idea of wear and tear and crew stowage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Dear Shane,

This is a beutiful modeling project you are sharing with us.
I have a [personal interest in the Tiran as I was serving in a Tiran unit from early 73 to mid 75.

It looks like the thickness of the poly cards you are using is too large.
The main lights protection plate and the mounting side rail for the turret RH stowage bin, are over scale in terms of thickness. AFAIK this is a 5 mm sheet metal, thus 0.15 mm in the model. Kindly check with your reference pictures.

The torsion bar for front fenders is very good..

Kindly send me your email address to my address [email protected]

So I will be able to send ref images , until will be able to upload here..

I agree with Michael's comments, it does look too thick. You can try using beer cans to make it.
Come on, you will succeed.

"the Tamiya T-62 kit (pretty great)"
...well, I'd disagree with that, the Tamiya T-62 is well known for it's inaccuracies. Shame to do all that nice work on it rather than the newer Trumpeter kit. The turret at minimum should be replaced with the CMD one - I get the shivers just looking at the Tamiya turret front! Alas, I've still got one in the stash along with numerous upgrades, but it shall become a test bed for finishing techniques.

I was referring to its build-ability (is that a word??!!) Jim. I honestly have no idea how accurate either of these turrets or tanks are.

I will say that the Trumpeter Ti-67 .30 MG is HUGE compared to my kit spares from Tamiya, Academy, Testor, etc,. The stowage boxes are way out of scale and the plastic is not as easy to glue as kits from other makers.

But hey! There is so much stuff added to this turret already that it would be hard to tell anyway!

Yeh, can't fault it for that, Tamiya engineering and ease of assembly. Trumpeter would be opposite, a bit better detail and fit not so great (in general).

Hello there I feel that all the scratchbuilding here is "absolutely magnificent". Now I have noticed that on some IDF Tiran-6 tanks, the leftside hatch cover hing, point opens to the rear and on othere it opens to the front. Why is that?

Here's a link to a Tiran-6 at Latrun Museum, by way of the Spruebender forum.
Israeli Tiran-6 at Latrun Museum

Now notice that the Latrun Museum's tanks leftside hatch opens to the front. Now in the photo of a Tiran-6 in active duty, the hatch opens to the rear.
I was told that when the folks that run the Latrun Museum,(IDF) would picked out of service tanks. An quickly paint them up to use as a representation of an active duty tank.

So I ask should we have that hatch opening to the rear or like the "representation" open to the front?

Sorry I asked the same thing twice.

Looking really good in paint! Maybe a base coat that will show through some chips and worn patches?
