I have just started to build the DML initial Tiger and have plumped for tactical number 100.

The dragon instructions show two Rommelkiste on opposite sides of the turret, but in TankPower 13 (aj press), it states that tactical number 100, which was the CO's tank, was fitted with an improvised Rommelkiste, mounted on the left side. (the line diagram next to the text shows 1 storage bin, not two).

Can any of the resident experts please confirm which is correct?

Thank you in advance.

It originally had a Pz 3 bin at the rear of the turret. You can see the remains of the tabs where that was cut off.

Two custom bins were then made and put on the turret sides. There is an eyewitness report from an anonymous person in Russia, that the left hand bin was half full of concrete to cover a penetration in the turret wall.

During the fighting, the right hand bin took a hit and was knocked off.

The Russians captured the tank, washed off the whitewash, and displayed it with its one remaining bin. Most photos of '100' date from this time.

David,

Thanks for the response, two bins it is. As a matter of curiosity, do you know at what point the pz III stowage bin was removed & replaced by the side bins?

Not really. In all the known photos, it has the side bins by the time it's camouflaged. I don't know if they were ever grey.
