Hello:
I recently brought a KIRIN M-84 1/35 kit. Honestly I never heard about that tank, but I tough that will be an interesting subjet.
The box marked it as "Yugoslavian/free Kuwait" model. I want to know if the kit can be placed in the Yugoslavian conflit of th nineties. Obviously Ineed to konow who used it (croatians, Bosnians, Servs or all of them)
Can also be placed in the Deser Storm Conflic too??.
is ther any fixing for the kit (or aftermarket products)?
Let's hope someone can give me some advise.
Best Regards.

Yes, of course. The M84 was exactly the yugoslavian T72 version (T72 M is the export model of T72) , so you can depict for exemple a serbian tank during yugoslavian war
Regarding who used it, Yugoslavian war was a civil war so croats and slovenian used the same tank as serbian used. To be exact croat and slovenian tanks were serbian tanks captured.

The kit can be done as a M-84 on yugoslav, but not on kuwait, the kuwait version has laminate applique on glacis (as on tamiya kit) and turret similar as T-72M1 but with the sensors of M-84, the kirin version is most like a T-72M version turret with the yugo sensors

Yes, this is something to be careful of. The M-84 turret isnt just a straight M turret, it has a slightly different shape to it with beefed up armor around the loaders hatch I believe.

The Kirin M-84 contains a resin turret that is supposed to make it a more accurate Yugo version. It still suffers from being a Dragon based T-72, but overall it does not look bad when built.

As Raoul and Rob said, M84 is slightly different from a common T72 M (...infact it isn't called "t 72", it has a different nomenclature), so look for correct references

It makes a fairly good Yugoslav M-84, but I'd put the turret on a Tamiya T-72 kit instead.
The Croats captured a few I believe, I did mine as a Croatian tank.

Hi all!
M-84 is Yugoslav upgraded version of T-72 tank, however there are few different version of it. Yugoslavia bought licence for T-72 from Poland. First M-84's didn't have front armored plate (Tamiya has one since it is T-72M1 kit, and Dragon/Italeri/Zvezda does not since is T-72G kit) and meteorologic sensor ("stick" on turret above gun) was colapsable. Shape of turret was a bit different than on later versions and position of smoke discharges was a bit different (like on early T-72). Example is picture of Bosnian M-84 in this thread "Garavi zeko" (eng. "Smutty rabbit"), btw, one of only two M-84's in Bosnian Army during the war.
Later version was M-84A which had revised turret shape, better engine, pole like meteo sensor, revised position of smoke dischargers, and armored plate in front of driver. Also number of bars beetwen "V" shaped "thing" on front hull plate was 4 insted of 2 as on earlier version.
M-84AK is an command version of M-84A.
Next was M-84AB which is Kuwait version and has sand filter insted of one external fuel tank on right hull side. Otherwise, in is equal to M-84A (rubber skirts are add-on). Except Kuwait, only Croatia have M-84AB, since final assembly of M-84 was made in Croatia. Command version is M-84ABK.
In late '80 a prototype of new tank called "Vihor" (eng. "Hurricane") was made based on M-84 but since Yugoslavia broke apart it never made to production. However concepts of Vihor was based to further develop M-84 in Croatia and Serbia. Croatia developed M-84A4 "Sniper" with upgraded engine and fire control system (it uses Slovenian Omega-94 system instead of DNNS-2) and faster gun loading mechanism. Picture is also in this thread, and new aiming device is clearly visible. This is last M-84 version used in the war.
Also Croatia developed M-95 Degman, a new tank based on M-84. In never reached production (lack of funding), but concepts where used for upgrade program of M-84A/AB to M-84D standard.
Serbia also work on upgrading M-84 and developed M-84AB1, however it did not reach serial production (lack of funding). Both M-84D and M-84AB1 have reactive armour, and don't look like M-84 at all.
